Gavin & Stacey

Gavin and Stacey stars James Corden and Mathew Horne have signed up to make a new comedy sketch show for BBC Three.

The six part comedy series, currently being called Horne and Corden Have Come, will be directed by Kathy Burke.

The BBC said the series would be a "traditional comedy entertainment show in the style of Morecambe and Wise".

The duo, who scooped a TV Bafta on Sunday, will create comedy characters and also perform as themselves in front of a live studio audience.

"Gavin and Stacey winning the Bafta audience award for best programme represented a real highpoint in BBC Three's commitment to new comedy," said controller Danny Cohen.

Corden, who won the prize for best comedy performance, said the duo were working on a Christmas special, but was not sure whether a third series would be made.

"We can only really make one if we think it's going to be better than the first two," he said.

"We only really want to make one if we know we have got a story that's worth telling."
 
Gavin & Stacey actress Ruth Jones has been given her own show on BBC Radio Wales.

The comedian will present a 12-week run of Ruth Jones's Sunday Brunch on Sunday mornings at 10am.

Jones, who won a BAFTA for her BBC Three sitcom earlier this year, said she was "really looking forward" to the challenge.

"It'll be like having friends over the house for brunch," she said.

"We'll go through the papers, have a coffee, maybe a bacon bap or two and a nice chat, y'know, just relaxed and easy. Easy like Sunday morning."

Radio Wales Editor Sali Collins said: "Ruth is one of British comedy's brightest stars and she's Welsh to the core, so her collaboration with Radio Wales is a perfect fit."

The first show airs on Sunday, October 5.

I think we can get BBC Radio Wales on digital. I may give this a go, if I remember of course.

On one hand I want it to be good because Matthew Horne seems like a lovely chap and Kylie cameos in it, but on the other hand a big failure would be great for the arrogant James Corden.

So did NOBODY ON MOOPY watch the Christmas special then? I find that quite difficult to believe, I cannot lie.

It was the first time I have ever watched Gavin and Stacey, I have been very cynical about it as having never seen it and having everybody going OMG WATCH GAVIN AND STACEY ITS AMAZING quite puts me off wanting to watch it, and also makes me assume its probably a bit rubbish.

I actually however ended up loving it. I thought it was really great. Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon (and to a lesser extent Julia Davies) totally stole the show, but they are blessed with the best characters. I didn't realise it was such an ensamble show, and I didn't realise that it had some really great actors in it. I want the DVD boxset now. It reminded me of a much (much) tamer Nighty Night in reference to the writing style.

I must say I HATE James Corden though, and I thought his character was ghastly and the weak link of the show. Matthew Horne on the other hand I think is lovely. He also gives me the horn a bit. I think it might be his eyes. I hope this is not a wrong opinion.
 
Considering he looks like a cross between the Crazy Frog and Jude Law as the robot in AI, then yes it is wrong. Although not uncommon.

Anyway, I watched it and LOVED it. More than any episode of the second series.
 
Also my personal favourite bit of the Christmas special was when Gavin's Dad was cooking Christmas dinner, and all these strange Welsh people in his home kept asking him if he needed any help. I'm not even sure whether it was meant to be funny, but I would be slightly irritated if a lot of Welsh people kept asking me if I needed help cooking.
 
in MY experience, Welsh people tend to sit with their arses WELDED to the sofa, leaving the person doing the cooking SOBBING UNCONTROLLABLY into the gravy
 
I watched it, thought it was good but not brilliant. Some lovely lovely moments but Alison Steadman was underused and whilst Nessa's Santa was the highlight, there was so much with her that could have been done.

I also missed the random Nessa-Celebrity moments (there being only one, which wasn't very exciting...)

I too have never seen it but watched the Christmas episode and LOVED IT. Was easily the best thing on telly this Christmas and I am definately going to get up to speed with the first two episodes now.

I love the mum. Alison Steadman (?) is good in quite a few things I have seen her in.

I agree with everything Everpres wrote above apart from the last two sentences :smoke: James Corden I think is an annoying prick even though I like him/his character in the show.
 
BBC3 are repeating it from the start, two episodes at a time, every Monday from 9 starting next week.

Incidently you could hardly find the DVD boxset of both series anywhere in Central London yesterday. No wonder shops are closing. If I was in charge I'd shove it right at the front of the shop with a huge sign on it, I can imagine quite a few people would be wanting to invest following the Christmas special.

I think I would quite happily watch half hour episodes of Nessa telling ridiculous stories in her velvet tones. On the other hand I am bored of omelettes and references to the fishing trip.

James Corden nearly but not quite spoils my Gavin & Stacey enjoyment. I used to find Horne not completely unattractive when he was in Teachers, but now I am starting to become a bit repelled by his slightly alienish features. Corden says that he has a beautiful penis but I am not sure this is enough.
 
I like the fishing trip thing but I did read that it would all be revealed in the christmas episode...which it obviously wasn't !

Perhaps it's just me, but I wouldn't personally trust James Corden's opinion of what constitutes a beautiful penis
 
I love the show - EVERY THING ABOUT IT. While for me, Corden is not one of my favourite parts of the show, he certainly doesn't annoy me (I like EVERY member of the cast to be honest) like he does some of you, and he makes the show for a lot of the (straight) male viewers - I like the fact there is a character for everyone. Nessa and Pamela are the obvious 'gay icon' characters though and I love them both.

For me the show has got better and better and the references to things from previous episodes and in-jokes such as 'omelettes' and 'fishing trips' only build on it for me.

Loved it and absolutely thrilled they;re doing a third series - Jones and Corden's writing is exceptional.

James Corden doesn't annoy me AT ALL

What is PARTICULARLY ODD is that I actually found him ODDLY ATTRACTIVE when I first started watching it! Not "sexy" but "cute"...Ok, I'll get my COAT
 
Oh I don't like James Corden all that much, but I think I've said this already in this thread. He showed himself up to be really unfunny on The Bit Fat Quiz of the Year, didn't he? I do wish Ruth Jones was whoring herself out all over the telly instead of him. She is fucking mint.

Anyway, i didn't think the special was all that special really :( It was nice and made me laugh a bit, but it felt like there was quite a bit of padding and that it had all been done before in other episodes, with nowt striking me as particularly genius. Less than a week later I can't really remember much of it.

I still love both series and am up for the third one but I fear it may be getting spread thin now. I would much prefer a spin off with Pam, Gwen and Doris going on the run for a crime they did not commit (or some such).

I though The Royle Family special blew it out of the water the next day.
 
I don't really have much to say, but I watched it for the first time too at Christmas!
 
Well the third series is going to be set in Barry by the looks of it, so hopefully we'll get a lot more Doris
 
She's in some brilliantly shit BBC Wales sitcom called High Hopes, which I became a bit obsessed with in my second year of uni. She basically plays the same character, complete with a filthy past.

She was also in a Doctor Who episode, and I got given an action figure of her. We were quite disturbed to see some sort of fleshy vagina when we looked up her skirt.

Nah you could find the DVDs if you looked at the A-Z of TV Comedy. I was just surprised it was such an effort to find.

James Corden's character just really irritated me. He just seemed to be the definition of crap straight male, I REALLY hated when he started making up stupid endings to names and words such as Gavinerino and Gwenalongachungo. It made me cringe. I accept that he probably just isn't for me though, and I imagine lots of hetrosexual males love him.

I hope the Christmas Special hasn't ruined the previous two series for me now now I have them to watch. I quite liked the fishing trip thing and Gwen and her omelettes.
 
Smithy is supposed to be irritating, it's kind of the point. Almost all sitcoms need an irritating character for the others to react to. It's the reason THIS MAN has a career:

I prefer Smithy to bland Gavin anyway.
 
I got the boxset for Christmas despite not having seen a single episode, so I do hope I like it.

I probably will give it a go, if only because Ruth Jones is fucking amazing. The asthma attack in the first episode of Nighty Night is one of the funniest things I have EVER seen... and it even has a bit of Julia Davis in, yay

Although I do get the distinct impression that the two main characters play second fiddle to the minor characters, a la Will & Grace... Matthew Horne should stick to his cute supporting roles like in Catherine Tate
 
Julia Davis I love in this as well...the episode i nthe restaurant with the threesome is AMAZING :D
 
I love James Corden, and I think Smithy is one of the best things about the show.

The Christmas Special prompted me to belatedly watch series one this week, many years and months behind everybody else. I am sure nobody cares my opinions of it, but I need to spill them out somewhere so SOZ.

a.) I love Pam and how she became a vegeterian
b.) The letter scene in the Wedding episode with Stacey and Bryn (despite me not liking Stacey very much) was wonderfully written and played. I was really impressed, it shows how you slowly really warm to the characters in the show. Even more amazing is that they used Chasing Cars as the music for that scene and it didn't make me feel sick.
c.) How the glossed over the 6 engagement thing at the end of episode 5/beginning of episode 6 was a bit crap, but understandable.
d.) Annoyingly/embarressingly "I'm not going to lie to you" is a phrase I say often in real life, often before I tell lies and this is completely unrelated to Nessa. I feel a bit miffed that this is one of her catchphrases now, as I think people might think I was copying her when I actually was not.

I do like it lots though, although its blates about the ensamble cast as opposed to the two leads.
