And a lot of this too. Someone on my Facebook isn't the brightest spark in the box and she has always been fairly left wing, but probably a more centrist remainer. She, I quote, "cannot vote for Corbyn" because of his "consistent refusal to take a side on Brexit". The strength of feeling that followed a status she wrote about this was incredible- lots of people agreeing at best, downright furious with him at worst.

Again, I'm not saying I agree with her or that she's even right, but it's symptomatic of so much feeling out there that GENUINELY exists.

I feel I have to agree with @Ag on the fact that we cannot stick our heads in the sand and keep kidding ourselves.

I'm not ignoring them - I'm looking beyond the headline figures that are being reported.

There has been no point where I have anticipated anything other than the Tories being the biggest party after this election but the way the figures are being pushed and pulled is pure spin.

Y'know that poll that gave the Johnson/Corbyn debate 51/49 to Johnson? The only one anyone reported? It was the only one that gave it to Johnson and was on the smallest sample. Stuff like that is what makes me regard the whole thing with outright suspicion.

But that's the REPORTING, not the polls themselves.

And ALL the polls are OVERWHELMINGLY about the Tories winning by a large margin.

I SO want them to be wrong too- I mean, they have been before- but this is nothing like 2017 when Labour was closing with every week.
 
It's so thoroughly depressing that the Tories are campaigning successfully on their own incompetence. "Get Brexit Done". That was literally your fucking job and you fucked it several times over. And the British people are going "well, these are clearly the people for the job". I could despair if I wasn't on decent medication.
 
Anyway, I think I may have to opt out of the rest of it (not of voting, obviously). I found myself crying on the bus to work on Thursday because it's all so fucking depressing.

Being on my travels home today, I woke up feeling depressed and couldn't get my finger on why, especially as I'm about to hit full on Christmas mode. I've realised over the course of this morning that it's about the election, the politics etc. I'm going back to. I feel your pain.
 
I think it's healthier to just make peace with it now (but still vote, obviously). Yes the polls and how they're reported come from a place of bias, but given the numbers it's pure delusion to expect anything other than a Tory victory. The only question is how commanding it's going to be.
 
I think the 'OMG the polls are biased' thing is a bit overblown. As a stats-and-politik geek, I do often read the methodologies in the assumptions. whilst it's true that some agencies (e.g. Kantar) have been using fairly unrealistic weightings by age, some polls weight by actively asking people how likely they are to vote (e.g. yougov), so that can't be the case there. At the end of the day it's their reputations and businesses on the line if they get it vastly wrong so they dont have much of an incentive to.

So yes, unless something changes in the next fortnight, we're looking at how much, not who.

P.s. a lot of the polls say that if only women voted, labour would win. Fuck men. Not literally.
 
I hate to admit it, but Johnson pledging to make the UK #CorbynNeutral by Christmas raised a smile...
 
It's definitely a question of BY HOW MUCH rather than WHO.

Like the rest of you I despair, I really do, but will try and make some type of piece with it(whilst still voting obviously).

A lot of people(especially those lower down the food chain) who are voting Tory simply to get Brexit "done" are going to be in for some NASTY surprises over the next 5 years.

The media of course will continue to find a way to blame the left/the EU etc...this whole nightmare constantly surpasses expectations.

I have no plans to have kids and my advice to my nephew and niece when they are older will be train/specialize in something and find a way to GET OUT.
 
Have we seen the way the BBC is reporting the Tory manifesto on the BBC News site?

In tiny better news my Dad hates Boris and Brexit so much for the first time in his GE voting life, (that goes back to 1970) he won't be voting Tory. Such a shame others won't do the same.
 
2017 coverage was disgustingly pro Tory until Corbyn started clawing back.

Two conservative parliamentary candidates forced out in the last week due to proven antisemitism.

Muslim council damning the conservative party for their lack of action on Islamaphobia.

And the BBC have had the Rabbi at the top of their news for the last 24 hours whereas the others are barely mentioned.

Fuck everything.

I was watching something with John Curtice the other day and he says these figures are always overinflated. This is because people register to vote who are already on the list. And there’s no way of checking if you’re on the up to date register online.
 
Another poll showing a slight narrowing and a jump for Labour.

Obviously still expecting a healthy Tory majority though.

I would imagine we're heading back to hung parliament territory largely due to labour's policy on 'waspi' women. My own mother who has retired early due to ill health and is apparently entitled to no help whatsoever is now seriously considering voting labour for the first time in twenty years.

I get that he can't / won't admit personal culpability, but how hard would it be to acknowledge that there have been genuine issues within the Labour party and to apologise to any Jewish person who has felt isolated from the party as a result?
