I still think we're fucked. I feel like everything is fucked right now.

I’m going to be chanting MONORAIL MONORAIL all afternoon now

Well this is certainly a turn-up for the books :D

The winter election taking a focus on floods is a good thing.

Oh yeah, I just saw that. Jez focusing on how the Tories don't give a fuck about the north is a good way to remind people not to vote Tory.

There's a massive furore in Canterbury because the Lib Dem candidate has stood down to let the Labour one have a chance at winning the seat and keep the Tories out. Labour won last time over the Tories by 187 votes. All other 4 potential candidates have also said they wont stand. The national party have decided to bring someone else from the outside in to stand instead. The Lib Dems really are a fucking JOKE.

I grew up down there - Tory cunt Julian Brazier had been MP for as long as I can remember and so it was a DELIGHTFUL surprise when the Labour candidate Rosie Duffield beat him in 2017. My dad still lives there and while he's not a Corbyn fan, he is reasonably lefty and says Rosie is an excellent MP. The funny bit is when you look at the candidate the Tories have parachuted in to fight her.

Is now the time we can finally think about trying to move on from this antiquated, gerrymandered, easily manipulable FPTP Parliamentary system? Or is that going be "We voted, you lost, get over it" as well?

Realistically, parties that purport to be on the left should be doing this across the country but we're all far too obsessed with infighting.

I am a big fan of nuance in the rest of my politics but elections don't leave room for that. This is part of why right wingers win.

Exactly. At least the Lib dems are working with Plaid and Green.
If Labour stepped down in quite a few seats in the South West for example it could help to overturn a few Tories.
Hopefully there’ll be some last minute step downs but am not holding out much hope.

I understand the idea of a remain alliance is appealing, but I do wonder if it would work as well as people think. A lot of parties are kind of dependent on not being seen to be on the same wavelength as the other parties who have an ostensibly similar view on Brexit.

The Lib Dems can't stand down for Labour because they are absolutely dependent on winning over right-wing remainers who don't like Brexit but REALLY don't like Corbyn. They will lose a lot of votes (let alone a few MPs) if they are seen to be working with Labour.

And although Labour want a second referendum, they aren't positioning themselves as remainers. They have a broad base which does include people who voted to leave. So the hardcore Brexit nutters aren't going to vote Labour at this point, but if Labour stood down for the Lib Dems whose position is to revoke Article 50 entirely and never speak of it again? Not necessarily going to help with more moderate Brexit voters.

Labour and the Lib Dems are surely pretty dependent on unionist votes in the very few places in Scotland they have a shot, so standing down for the SNP in most of Scotland would probably lose them votes elsewhere in Scotland, and certainly could lose them votes in England.

On the other hand, I think everyone could stand down for Caroline Lucas in Brighton, and probably should because saving polar bears is just about the only thing all voters left of Farage can agree on.

The Lib Dems are damned if they do, damned if they don't it seems. If they try to help labour you say they;re a fucking joke, but they;'ve had loads of shit from people for not agreeing to a coalition if they were to get the numbers. What do you actually want from them?

The real fucking joke is the fact that we have this ridiculous FPTP system where parties need to have these tactical considerations. And guess what? The Lib Dems are the ones who want rid of it the most... unlike the Labour party who are still clinging on to the fact that FPTP helps them hugely.

I don't understand why he even wants the job? He's a lazy old drunk with millions in the bank and a trophy girlfriend. Just fuck off to an Island and leave us all alone!

Probably some deep rooted psychologic issue to prove all the bigger more handsome boys at Eaton that he's better than them.

That's what his victory speech will consist of. It'll be a piece of score settling to rival Alan Partridge's "Bouncing Back".

Now Farage is saying the Tories have tried to bribe 6 BXP candidates to stand down and he’ll run against them after all?! Echoed by Richard Tice.

This is huge if true.

It’s been another DISASTROUS day for the Tories. And still I don’t see it affecting anything.

I wonder if free Broadband is going to lure the braindeads?!

James cleverley is a fucking cunt.

I really want to do a top ten worst Tories list. But it's so difficult.

Free broadband will surely backfire. Surely nobody is fooled by Labour's unachievable spending plans?

We are so far behind the entire developed world when it comes to internet access as well.

“UNACHIEVABLE!”
“PIE IN THE SKY!!!!”
“DIANE ABBOTT CALCULATIONS!!!!!!”

Or just actually taxing companies and the über rich properly and using the money on things society needs.

Free broadband will surely backfire. Surely nobody is fooled by Labour's unachievable spending plans?

It's not that expensive; it just seems that way due to how it is presently sold and marketed. It'll certainly prove less expensive than various quixotic bridge announcements by Johnson. Or renewing Trident.

And Boris' ego projects?

Someone whip out that meme of the Express comparing identical plans on minimum wage that's been doing the rounds.
