It was the last icawnique Spice single really. I suppose you could argue that This tune's gonna punish you was, as well, if only for the cacophony surrounding it.

The correct lead single, Shirley Bassey-Lite and quite different to what was out there or people were expecting.

I think it's a good statement of intent but her voice being absolutely unbearably unlistenable on it makes it a no from me. :(

Other songs definitely did better to hide her voice.
 
I think it was perfect at the time to break her away from the group but it’s not something I’ve ever felt the need to just put on and listen to. It’s hard to rate it low though because it’s pretty iconic at this point in the Solo Spice arena. Plus the video is just pure glorious madness.
 
Yeah Mi Chico's objectively a better song, but she's not a nun in the video :disco:
 
I just asked Alexa to play it and she said she couldn't find it and is playing Angels In Chains instead

I am no GERU apologist, but Mi Chico Latino being one of LIFE’S GREATEST POP SONGS is a hill I’ll die on MANY TIMES.

The whole LATIN DRAMA of it all! The fact she obviously just shamelessly went “let’s rip off La Isla Bonita” makes it EVEN BETTER :disco:
 
Mi Chico Latino is definitely her finest moment for me along with Love Never Loved Me (the lost singal)
 
Mi Chico Latino is top tier latin pop.

This is not that good, but I came to like it. And as I always say, everything from 1999 sounds good to me nowadays, it was after all the best year in human history.

Also kudos to her for recording something that sounded like nothing else at that time (or am I wrong here?).

She is a huge fan of Shirley, LAM was of course inspired by her, Shirley sang at Geru's 50th :disco:

Shirley loves Geru! Even if she doesn't have the RAAANGE dahling.
 
I meant that it sounded different to the current pop music of that time.

I remember that Geri documentary that came out around this time which featured her Spanish mother prominently. A couple of days after it aired she was on the Des O'Connor chat show and the doc came up. Des said he loved it. Later in the interview she mentioned her mother being Spanish and Des said "your mothers Spanish??" proving he hadn't actually watched the doc and just got fed certain info from the producers. It was so cringe.
