I think my star player of the three episodes was Heidi Range's rictus grin, closely followed by Sabrina Washington generally.
 
I mean, Mel Blatt claimed to be the first pregnant pop star in this too, so accuracy wasn’t much of a forethought.

So surprised about GA in particular not being mentioned at all.
 
I never really twigged that Right Now is an anthem to getting railed

Although it feels on-brand for a Kerry Katona launch single :disco:

God the early 2000s in the UK was such TRASH :disco: The ghost of Jade Goody is haunting this Atomic Kitten section
 
Haven't seen the last episode yet, and maybe I am misremembering, but this feels a bit lighter on the talking heads from the actual groups than the boyband version.

I enjoyed Mel overall. She was a bit snidey about the Spice Girls yes, but so was the saintly Kelle too.

Also hindsight is a RIGHT CUNT :disco:
 
I had forgetten that One Night Stand by Mis-Teeq seemed to have the line "FULL CLIT" in the chorus :disco:
 
I liked it a lot though the Girls Aloud erasure was odd. I assume there was a reason beyond them just not getting one for an interview.
 
They could easily have done 4 episodes just by having a fuller combing over of the girl group herstories that included GA etc, but if it saved more wrong rememberings from that blonde woman (acrually Sugababes since went on to say they were told not to smile and the sitting there was something at odds with how excited they were at the time) and the poor man's Sarah Cawood Heat woman gloating about showbiz having a dark side as a way of justifying the cellulite circling.
 
Yeah the anti-Spice Girls is coming across more sour grapes than genuine points from some of these people.

To not mention GA is utterly odd and really rather ridiculous :D
 
The structure of the last episode was also quite weird: big intro about reality TV in the '10s, then back to the Sugababes, eventually leading in to Little Mix again. Feels like it would have made more sense to have that first section on Girls Aloud being formed on TV.

It was a bit bizarre, that Atomic Kitten had nearly the whole second episode dedicated to them as if they were only the group to debut after Spice Girls (who are glossed over and only really discussed in the context of being a contrasting group to All Saints), All Saints, Eternal, etc when in fact Sugababes had a much bigger impact even with their first album. It's almost as if the show creators are biased to the number of contributors from each group willing to participate in talking head interviews :eyes:
 
Definitely felt there was room for a 4th episode. The last one was my least favourite and yes, when you’re talking about tv show created groups why would you not even mentioned Girls Aloud, especially when you are covering their closest rivals of the era Sugababes.

I do think as it’s UK centric 80s bands such as Bananarama and Fuzzbox should have got a proper mention as surely it was even harder in their peak days to breakthrough.

GA just seemed like such a big omission. The others post-90s I understand, but the narrative didn't fully make sense without GA, which makes me think there was a bigger reason for leaving them out beyond a lack of interviewees. Obviously Spice Girls were heavily included despite none of the five being there.
 
I had this on my watch list - but am I to understand that they've really omitted one of the biggest UK girlbands in pop history? No FIERCE no point!
 
I binged this all yesterday. It was fine, but the notable absences were a sore point that damaged the whole show.

Atomic Kitten could have been wrapped up in an episode. Mel Blatt weirdly bitter considering how bloody successful All Saints were. Kerry Katona came across reasonably well as she occasionally can. The Mis-Teeq stuff was pretty dull. Insane that Vanilla got more airtime than Girls Aloud.

That they couldn't even get BUNTON.
 
Mel's dirty mouth was quite fun. I saw All Saints in 2000, they were absolutely fucked.
 
Are Atomic Kitten REALLY considered one of the UK's bigger girl groups? I can name the sum total of ONE of their songs.
 
They had three #1s, thirteen top ten hits and two #1 albums. That's pretty close to the level that Sugababes, Eternal and Girls Aloud were at, and significantly above the likes of The Saturdays and Mis-Teeq.

They were also, I believe, significantly more popular in Europe than any of the other non-Spice Girls UK girl groups.

They had two number one albums, and five platinum album certifications, plus three #1 singles. It would seem odd to me to exclude them from the conversation about bigger girl groups.

Although not as odd as excluding Girls Aloud, admittedly!
 
It’s a bit annoying that the Atomic Kitten focus is so often on Katona as the band were about to be dropped while she was in it and the significant success kicked in with Jenny Frost joining and her time in the band, though that was of course due to Whole Again and good timing on Frost’s part rather than Jenny’s own contributions.

I never liked AK, always seemed to be on the cheap side musically.
 
I don't dispute their place on the the programme, but perhaps spending so much time with three quarters of the members was overkill.
 
Yeah they had a solid right to be there based on their stats, but given Sugababes and of course GA lasted significantly longer with a hell of a lot more album sales really did make it a bit odd not to focus on them. Or to beat the drum, not to even mentioned Girls Alouds name…like in what world?!
 
I don't think it's a surprise. The Sugababes and All Saints have the stronger musical legacy, but none of the members individually have the "celebrity" of Kerry Katona. Even though Kerry is a very small part of Atomic Kitten's story, it's inevitable any TV doc would over-inflate her importance.

It's all relative on a show about people who were briefly famous 25 years ago.
 

If someone doesn't know Kerry Katona in 2025, they definitely don't know Mel Blatt or Heidi Range!

The way that the Spice Girls snubbed the show entirely but loomed large over the entire thing. It's giving VB, it's giving above it.

For what it's worth, both Kerry and Natasha gave good talking head. It's a shame that Atomic Kitten's post-Whole music was so crap.
 
Chris Herbert being invited to this was such a gag; saying he got the idea of making a band after he saw a Friends episode makes it more random, considering it premiered after the SG were auditioned and formed :confused:
 
So ODD that Girls Aloud were not even mentioned, they went on about a Sugababes and Atomic Kitten 'rivalry' but I remember whilst not a rivalry, it being more about Sugababes and Girls aloud out at the same time and people comparing. Enjoyed this never the less. I think it would of course been more Spice Girls focused if one of them had agreed to speak on it, but they are obviously holding out for their own bigger doc on Netflix or the like
 
If there were comparisons, it was between Sugababes and GA. Atomic Kitten were not in the same league and had to release MOR ballads and mid-tempos to keep it going. They did well for what they were, which ended up a long way from their beginnings and subtle disco attempts (the divine Be With You) still couldn't nudge things in any other direction.
 
I quite liked Kerry and Tash together. I always suspected Liz was a boring nightmare who would sulk if not included in nights out she had already said no to.
 
I saw a post elsewhere where the Bennetts have clearly seen the show and have done a TikTok which they’d say is supposed to be lighthearted but is basically suggesting Kelle wasn't let go by fax although they’ve previously admitted the fax. They’re such hard work.
 
I wonder if that as they had Perrie they didn’t want to do a reality TV show forms a girl group with Girls Aloud to then do it again with Little Mix. There’s only really one story to tell there.
