One of those being the terrible Ladies Night, and the other I can’t remember? It had quite a low peak but may have been released at a busier time? From my memory they were very much past their best before they decided to split although most of their songs sounded like they were trying to recreate Whole Again.
 
They were very much in the rinse and repeat cycle of their career by that point.

It was released on the Monday 29th January but for some reason the charts used that Saturday 10th February as when it entered the charts. Despite the fact the charts were published on Sunday 4th February.

I stand corrected. I wouldn’t have had a clue, and just took the date from the charts website as gospel.

I think it entered the charts on Christmas week. Sugababes Too Lost In You entered at #10 which I thought was more disappointing despite it being featured in Love Actually.

I was meaning the Atomic Kitten 3rd album. Surely Too Lost In You has outsold it by a country mile in the long run?

I'm sure it has but I mean neither achieved their ususal top 5 positions at that time because of Christmas. I just mean it wasn't a flop.

Nah, I'm not. Just checked and apparently debuted with 69K (which was at a time when most songs were debuting north of 100K) and increased it's sales for the next 4 weeks. I haven't checked but I would bet that opening week was one of the lower number 1 sales that year. Sales were huge around this time.

Ms Jackson and Teenage Dirtbag were the 2 big songs I remember being surpised it beat. Dirtbag surely won the war longer term in terms of sales though. It seems to be a constant streaming presence and was top 10 year end in the year of release too IIRC.

Why aren't Girls Aloud in BBC's Girlbands Forever documentary?

Following its premiere, viewers of the BBC's Girlbands Forever documentary have been left wondering one thing. Well, two, actually. Who said chunky highlights and bootcut jeans with a heel was cool, and where the hell are Girls Aloud?

This is silly, ok so they didn’t want to be interviewed, but it’s no excuse for there not to be a mention.

I quite liked them at the time, but they really have proven to be incredibly LOW RENT and of the time compared to the likes of GA and Sugababes, whose music still is amazing 20 plus years down the track.

I do see why Whole Again is somewhat a classic of the genre, but I’d rather listen to The Tide is High these days :disco:
 
All Saints were a bit bigger than looking at chart numbers might suggest.

I remember for what must have been a whole term for assembly at school - the head teacher randomly opened the assembly by playing Never Ever in full and provided no explanation. No other songs were ever played before or after.

They were with the first album. Pure Shores was HUGE. Black Coffee dropped off the charts like the album. I suppose anyone wanting a William Orbit produced album which the 2 singles suggested they were mistaken. All Hooked Up proved THAT.
 
All Hooked Up is a bit of fun, and I do have a soft spot for the album. But yes, the two lead singles sadly aren’t indicative of the budget/quality of the rest of the album.
 
They’d already functionally broken up by the time All Hooked Up came out, which is a big part of why it and the album had no shelf life. They shot the video seperately and did no promotion for it at all.
 
I always expected All Saints to have good ALBAMS because of the way they spoke about and carried themselves as songwriters etc but their albums were so full of filler. They were as much of a singles band as any of the other girl groups of the 90s.

I haven’t really deep dived Sugababes beyond the singles but I feel only the first two Eternal albums and some of Girls Aloud’s felt like the most complete start to finish girlband albums though not without a tiny bit of filler either.

I don’t think Mis-Teeq would have been very profitable for the record company? Scandalous was pretty HUGE but they never seemed to hit the peak of other girl bands at the time. One Night Stand and Scandalous would be my takeaways from them.
 
Scandalous felt silly big, but unfortunately in the era of SHIT sales so I can't imagine it translated well to £££

I think the albums sold ok-ish but never really keeping up with the Sugababes or Atomic Kittens of the time.

Listening back, and wasn't All I Want very TINNY?
 
I was always quite fond of Secrets of the Night from their debut album. Certainly a lot better than Be With Me from the same album.
 
Mis-Teeq did well I guess in a subjective way, but, if you went by the documentary, they were the biggest urban phenomenon since TLC :D
 
It was a bit weird that they mentioned being selected for the BIG HOLLYWOOD BLOCKBUSTER Catwoman…

I love Catwoman more than most people, but you can’t ignore that it was not quite the behemoth it was expected to be.
 
In other HOT MIS-TEEQ chat I had no clue that Alesha got offered a solo deal over the group. I know that Alesha had a couple of solo hits but I assumed the group SPLIT then she signed a solo deal. When you look at her now it was certainly the correct career move but poor Sabrina and Su-Elise. :(
 
Also was thinking will S Club 7 and Steps get a look in if they do a mixed gender programme? Trying to think off the top of my head..Buck Fizz, ABBA, Steps, S Club 7, Scooch, S Club Juniors, A Teens...but do locals care enough?

Scandalous was a modest hit in America, so Mis-teeq do have that over Girls Aloud, Sugababes and Atomic Kitten.
