no longer my favourite album, Tangled Up is back in front again but this has their top 2 tracks in the form of Untouchable and The Loving Kind

I didn't fully get The Promise at the time but it's just so rare to find a pop song in which every twist and turn, every melody and adlib, every production flourish is a hook. It's SO FUCKING CATCHY, and really stunningly well produced. Doesn't sound one bit dated today.
 
What did end up selling in the end? I've got a figure of about 750,000 in my head.
 
I have a lot of strong memories associated with this album...this was around the time i had my first serious boyfriend, and I put Rolling Back The Rivers In Time on a mixed tape for him. It was also when I started working in my first post-university 'omg real job' in Mayfair, and I absolutely hated the greed and assholes that surrounded me everyday, so I would play 'Live in the Country' on the 6:20am train in and the 19:37 train out :zombie:


Will never understand the logic of Fix Me Up, and to add insult to injury it's plced between those two electro beauties.

This also coincided with the start of my first job. I was in love with my life at the time and this album captured that moment in time. Absolutely sublime.

Rolling Back The Rivers In Time is my favourite Aloud album track.

Their vocals on the verses are just beautiful.
 
And if they'd stuck Memory Of You on there it would've been the best album ever.
 
I don't think there's a single one of their albums that I truly rate much more highly than the others. The highs on each are so mighty that they all deserve at least a modicum of attention.
 
As witnessed by the fact that I'm currently having a glorious spin through my current favourites: The Loving Kind, Memory Of You, Close To Love, Girls Allowed, Models, Wild Horses, Jump, Graffiti My Soul, The Promise, It's Your Dynamite...

I think it falls down a bit in the second half - Fix Me Up is the WORST thing they have ever recorded, and I'm including Sacred Trust!
 
I think I prefer Fix Me Up to Sacred Trust or Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me. But that's probably about it.
 
bcylm is probably their nadir. not a bad song but completely nothing to do with them. shame it came right at the end.
 
I do no know what this Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me is that you speak of.
 
Girls Aloud without Xenomania don't really exist. Except for On The Metro and a couple of others.

I either accept it and the joys of 'On The Metro', or blank BCYLM and let it take OTM with it. It's a real dilemma.
 
It saddens me that the girls themselves probably like BCYLM more than 90% of the rest of their material. The book proved they had NO IDEA and were very fortunate to have Higgins & Cooper pulling the strings.
 
I still think it reads very much like a "My First Girls Aloud Album" for the masses. Aside from three songs which are amongst their very finest for me ('The Loving Kind', 'Rolling Back The Rivers In Time' and 'Untouchable'), the rest just seems to borrow from their previous efforts but fails to recapture any of the excitement or imagination that was poured across their previous albums in spades.

It was always clear they hated their stuff. To dismiss Love Machine (which I admittedly don't much like either) and The Loving Kind like they did really showed what empty vessels these girls were.
 
Five years later and still the best of any GA/Sugababes/Satz album (and outside of this and Chemistry, I only really have time for GA as a singles act)

And next to BCYLM, "Fix Me Up" is a TEN no mistake.

But then I quite like their reading of "See the Day" :shy:

It was like Cheryl's last attempt to airbrush Nadine out the band completely. The basin/face in lyric would have been an amazing opening verse on a Geru dance-pop comeback track though.
 
I'll wade in with a token horrendous opinion that 'I Think We're Alone Now' may be in my top 3 :disco:
 
Oh single versh of course. That 'Voodoo Child' backing track is fabulous

It really has stood the test of time as their best album.

I think it contains some of their highest highs but also absolute lowest lows. The second half in particular, aside from the fabulous Miss You Bow Wow, is dogshit. But the opening trio and Untouchable are everything.

Tangled Up is just a way tighter record and it also contains Control of the Knife, so it wins.

And don't even get me started on the cover art...

I never really got the love for this album

Agree with @Jark that it is a bit too hit and miss to be considered better than Tangled Up
 
Must concur. Crap artwork, mixed bag songwise.
