Never been a huge fan of the 'frapp. Although I did catch them at Latitude a few years ago and they were very good. I have done a bit of an about turn on them since and as a result I'll slap this with a healthy 8.

I find their electroclash songs quite similar and sometimes get them confused, but this one always stands out as it’s the one that goes OFF on stage. Definitely a fan favourite. I still prefer ambient banshee Goldfrapp but the move to electro and disco certainly helped their / her career and allowed them to play bigger venues and larger tours.

Number 1 is forever my favourite though, I still play it often

It makes me wish I could dance, at all, like with even 10% ability, it’s a sing to dance moodily to - yet all I can do is go and get a burger from the strange nightclub kitchen. This is my tragedy. I may have others. But this is high on the list.

I made a quick 40 track Goldfrapp personal penchants playlist in the early hours of this morning (focus: the banger). There must be something in the water. I saw the remix posted on popsquare, but would rather it be a bootleg with Alison smearing herself all over it instead. Strict Machine really is a mechanical objet d'art that doesn't stop twisting itself open and revealing infinite layers and lustre. I was never sold on Supernature beyond Number One. What was I thinking??? I think having got them at Felt Mountain I felt Ooh La La was so low end, but I now tentatively declare it high end, specialised pop trash finery.

This track is on my 'Driving Alone at Night' Spotify playlist and it came on shuffle while on the motorway at dusk on Sunday night and it was *chef's kiss*

the others I find in one way or another a bit lazy or obvious - when they are on fire they are really on fire - and when they are not they are as pointless as Alison's solo 'career'.

Supernature is to Black Cherry what the Eurythmics Revenge is to Be Yourself Tonight - at least as successful in commercial terms as the one before it, if not more so, but sort of with the rough edges sanded down so much it all just passes me by as a little bit polite.

Supernature hits the ground running. Can't believe I'm only discovering the disco of it in 2026. The original "You want more? Well I'll give 'em more" electronic pop album.

I loved Black Cherry still giving us those blissful body floating down the Thames sense of detached, care-less wonder and cosy cinematic horror.

Strict Machine reshaped the contemporary pop template.
