first reactions to the film are really shit hot and it's apparently looking at a €115m+ US opening which is kinda insane, and will easily beat even Mission Impossible 7's opening weekend numbers :o

I really did not have the Barbie movie being a critical and commercial smash on my Hollywood bingo card. I might even go and see it :disco:
 
Ms Ron has booked us tickets to see it at Backyard. Ron Jr is not impressed.

That's impressive - I will go and see it, even if the promo has become kind of tedious.

The box office is really interesting at the moment - I didn't realise what a sleeper hit Elemental had become (despite seeming like an initial bomb).

I really want to go and see it and I have not been to the cinema in MONTHS. I used to go 2-3 times a week but there was just endlessly nothing on I wanted to watch and I gave up. I can't even remember the last time- probably January ish? It's so sad.

I’ve booked my tickets for an Oppenheimer and Barbie double bill next Saturday. Following this itinerary of course

I am really intrigued by this too, and will probably go and see it unless the reviews are unanimously negative.
Incidentally I have seen more movies at the cinema in the last two weeks than in the first 6 months before :
Guardians of the Galaxy- ok but at this point i’m just tired of superheroes
Indiana Jones : ok- ish because I liked the final part, but it was a little too déjà vu in places
Body Double/ Dressed to kill / Obsession as part of a Brian de Palms Retrospective, loved all three but had seen them all before
and
L’ultima notte di Amore , an italian neo-noir which I LOVED , maybe my favourite movie of the last several years. The opening shot alone is worth the money , the whole movie is brilliant and just never lets up.
 
I think I'm going to see this on Saturday morning. my first cinema trip since Babylon (!) I think, this feels like an EVENT CINEMATIC OCCASION and I foresee it doing even better than predicted right now. total blinder for Margot after a run of flops and whispers of becoming box office poison. :disco:

and it's actually great and lucky marketing that the film has this big name soundtrack attached to it, with the actors strike now ruling out most kinds of promotion, red carpet premieres etc. at least the songs can be the promo.
 
They did most of the premieres though didn't they. Certainly UK, US and Asia

Watched this last night at a 9:40pm showing to avoid kids but this is so squarely aimed at adults isn’t it! I hadn’t read much about anything to do with it but didn’t realise it would be so meta… and so British! Half the case of Sex Education were in it!

I don’t know what I watched but I loved it and got quite emotional in places, captivated throughout and really enjoyed it.

The whole audience clapped and cheered when it began (and ended) and majority of people had dressed up for the occasion. Total event viewing and I loved it.
 
I hadn’t even considered this to be a kids movie and there might be awful children in attendance :D
 
I'm listening to the soundtrack now (seeing the movie tomorrow) and I quite like the Sam Smith song. They really are so much better when they aren't whiny
 
My 5 year old niece is desperate to see it but from what I can tell definitely not aimed at her :D

The marketing has been incredible for this.
 
This was great fun. Margot and Ryan were perfectly cast and the visual style was great. Only one family with kids in the screening, the rest were adults. One of the kids at the end said she didn't like Barbie with a vagina. :D
 
saw it today at 11.30 at a completely packed cinema. It's very very good and also quite a strange film to get one's head around. It switches from laugh-out-loud funny to the most heartfelt and genuinely touching drama in a second, which can be disconcerting..there are so many great details and little touches and throwaway funny lines ... I can't believe that Greta Gerwig got away with this tbh.
Oh and never have I seen so many people in conversations after leaving the cinema, including a surprising amount of seemingly heterosexual men.
This is going to become a huge success, and deservedly so.

Great fun - overall I liked it a lot, though I hated seeing gorgeous beautiful Ryan Gosling
kinda become the villain in the 2nd half. :D I was non-subversively hoping they had a happy ending together at the end. Sorry for being that basic.

I liked this quite a bit but some of the humour didn't work for me

I also got a bit tired of Ryan Gosling's mugging by the end, sorry to say

I do love how huge it is though, and seeing all the people dressed up etc.

7/10, great fun in parts
 
Also I loved how bits of Billie Eilish's song popped up here and there, I was dying to properly hear it by the end and stayed to listen again during the credits

The Ken song is fun and all but What Was I Made For? deserves the Oscar®. Absolutely gorgeous :love:
