Proper stereotypical rainy Manchester morning but despite the fact I've got ALL the lights on to counter the glumness, I'm in a fucking great mood.

Went into A&E this morning as my current situation RE: constant searing agony across the entire lower left-hand side of my face hasn’t improved any.

Initial doctor consultation inconclusive due to the fact I can’t open my fucking mouth more than about 5mm, but she thinks it might be an abscess/Quinsy.

I’ve been referred to an ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) specialist for a second opinion and to possibly have a camera forced down my gullet. Such fun!

The good news is that the standard highly irritating drug burnout who insists on constantly yammering at everyone and pissing off the nurses, despite everyone studiously ignoring him, is present and correct in the Waiting Room.

@SilVoR Bells I'm not sure if you've already posted about this or not, but have you been to the dentist to check if everything is ok with your teeth?

Also, perimenopause sucks 😭

Yeah I had a hygiene appointment a couple of weeks ago that didn’t pick anything up tooth-wise, so I’d be surprised.

I had quinsy when I was 11, it was the most horrendous time and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I had my tonsils and adenoids removed at the time but that was when they removed them without hesitation.

Nayy raine here ment rane tommrow year right dis week yesss next week chrimbo day huhhh da x round laters i needs break mars do

Red pandas kool

It's truly awful. I was in hospital a few days (just before the wedding of Kate and Will if you wish to date), dosed up on morphine. Eventually they put a syringe down my throat and drained the abscess, which provided immediate relief.

And yes having a syringe shoved down your throat is exactly as horror film as it sounds, but it was that or die.

I had a very kind message from a poster last night. I must say I have been wondering about my existence here recently, so it was nice to read it.

I can't get the word quinsy out of my head. It sounds like a word for a private part from the 1950s.

That nasty little boy from the farm asked Geraldine to show him her quinsy. What a brtue!

Closing on hour 12 since I came in.

Been on a bed for over 2 hours enjoying pain relief via drip and waiting for somebody to become available to drain my quinsy. Even the nurses seem bemused that I’m still here.

Quinsy, dropsy, leprosy...they had a WAY with names back in the day.

Turns out I have a dry quinsy :(

The process of finding that out was… deeply unpleasant.

They stuck a syringe in it and nothing came out? :zombie:

What's next?

Yep. It took about 6 tries. In the end I just had to tell them to ignore my gags and involuntary screams of horror and ‘unless I physically vomit on you, just keep going until it’s done’.

Now it’s back to antibiotics and monitoring.

Oh that's awful. So you're still in all that pain? Are they giving you anything stronger than paracetamol to go home with?

Sounds awful though, hope they give you a suitable amount of nhs gear

The steroids I’ve been hooked up to all day have definitely kept the pain at bay. They’re giving me more of that plus more (hopefully better) antibiotics.

Ive also just read the term cock a snook for the first time ever. What a day of rich learning for young ronald

Sorry vor and hope you're feeling better soon etc, but QUINSY is just putting in me mind of something Victorian or from the Oregon Trail :(
