Haiku's Music of Asia Archival Adventures (1980-2004) October 24 @13:30 BST

Song 2: Jeanette Wang - Taipei's Sky (1985 Taiwan)
Jeanette is a massive starlet of Chinese classical pop. This song is about a lovehurt woman yearning for her lover, viewing the eponymous Taiwan sky to remind herself of him. :(

Song 3: Stefanie Sun - Shen Qi (Magical) (2003 Singapore)
Born in Singapore, Stefanie is well known for experimenting with different styles of music and drawing upon musical influence of other countries. Shen Qi is no exception.

Yeah this is something different... maybe less so for me but not bad

China is so big it actually has a border with every country in the world, imo.

Oh she's from Singapore! well still it's good.

Do I smell a 90s Disney Ballad? LOVE whatever instrument that is, I don't know the name. Like they use on Colours of the Wind

piano by way of computer effects?

I might just be in a funny mood today but these ballads are actually quite affecting to me :D Probably helps that the giraffe isn't around to pour cold water around the place :tongueout:

Song 4: Winnie Hsin - Scent (1994 Taiwan/China)
Very Disney-ish and a-dozen-by-the-dime ballad, I know but there is something I find magical about this one. Winnie Hsin is a professionally trained Soprano singer and has a career that now spands 35 years.

OMG is she drowning herself? AND stretching out the elastic by balling her socks? :o don't do it! on both counts!

Really thought she was flushing the toilet :D

Oh now I'm getting Chinese adverts now :D makes a change from that bloody Japanese real-estate one I get more than half the time

Up next one of China's biggest divas :disco:

More well-known for her ballads but I already had two so here's one of her pop tracks instead!

I got ads for a skin cream containing MANDARIN orange - they know

Just remembered CoCo Lee's A Love Before Time from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, that always made me cry when I listened to it 🥺
I very nearly added A Love Before Time (just decided to go for something less known). <333 Always makes me sentimental too :(

Song 5: A-Mei - Zǐmèi (Sister) (1995 China)
A lovely little cute early slice of pop song with a hint of female empowerment!

If you'd told me that an English version of this was recorded by basically ANY big female artist in 1993, I'd believe you
LOVE
