Song 3: Ayumi Hamasaki - Inspire - 2004

I've written quite a bit about her in the previous two runs so for this one: JAPANESE MUSICAL ROYALTY. enough said.

I remember late 2004 when this hot shit landed, and decided that one day I wanted to be able to do this in karaoke, but I'm NO closer :D
 
I was tempted to enter Inspire in ASFM one day, but not only would to be even MORE transparently obviously me, but it is hatefully 00s and my poor heart wouldn't be able to take it when the cool kids tanked it
 
Song 4: Miyuki Nakajima - Chijō no Hoshi (Earthly Stars) - (2000, Japan)

Miyuki has actually had a long career, debuting in the late 70s. This however was one of her best known songs, if not the most. Used for a Japanese documentary series that debuted in around 2000, it was consistently in the Japanese chart but didn't reach Number 1 until 2003! It had a 117 week chart run if I remember correctly.

That's kind of incredible - the Oricon charts are basically like if 1999 never ended in the UK. HUGE debuts and most things sell 90% of their units in the first week

Song 5: V6 - Change The World - 2000 Japan

A group formed by the talent agency Johnny & Associates, V6 consisted of 6 guys: 3 who were born in the first half of the 70s and 3 who were born in the latter half of the 70s. Formed in 1995, they had a good run of top 10 hits in the 90s and 2000s, before finally splitting in 2021(!).

This song featured as an intro theme for the anime Inuyasha.

Did they split up last year？Weirdly I didn’t hear anything about it :o

Not compared to Arashi and Amuro Namie who had seemingly endless review shows in their last years
 
Song 6: Ami Ozaki - Junjou (Innocent) - 1981 Japan

Ami Ozaki launched into stardom after winning a reputable music competition, having a few hits in 70s and 80s. She still has the odd release now and then and gets wheeled out for TV Asahi celebration shows but seems to have settled for selling hand bags and teaching classical piano (of which she has been trained since the age of 8 according to her bio).
