Haiku's Music of Asia Archival Adventures Round 3 (1980-2005) June 11th @13:00 BST/@21:00 JST

Interval 1 - Valeria Lynch - Rompecebezas (Puzzle) - 1985 Argentina

Here is Valeria Lynch, performing her winning entry at the World Popular Music Song Contest (kinda a Japanese answer to Eurovision at the time).

Notable for the fact that in addition to the Japanese artists she won against, she also beat out David Pomeranz (singer who had performed and written for Barry Manilow and Freddie Mercury) and LaToya Jackson!! (or Janet Jackson, if you believe an old myth she was singing for her backstage)!

Song 7: SES - Just A Feeling - 2002 South Korea

Girl group, particularly popular during the 90s and late 2000s. They have all since gone on to fashion or acting which they all seem be thriving in.

Yesterday one of my hot college students was talking about the other student's mother
"His mother ... very ... funky woman. Funky mama, yeah"

Good question: I guess Spotify and YouTube takes me places and sometimes I look up the artists just a bit more to see more of their work.

I really need to get into Spotify ... YouTube is good but it does get itself into loops

Song 8: TVXQ - Hi Ya Ya - 2004 South Korea

Boyband who launched in 2002 I think. They're still together, technically. The record label they were with dropped two of them and kept the other 4 for a group, but then the two that were dropped formed their own group. But the two that were dropped are the ones performing as TVXQ? :D

Their later work was a lot more sensual than this if Diddy you ever want to search it. :D

Did you include them somewhere last time? I remember googling someone naked

Song 9: Chae Yeon - Dangerous Act - 2003 South Korea

I don't know much about this artist, I just found this song yesterday in fact and felt like a must to include. :D

Hope whoever this is has a soundalike song that I can enter into a future ASFM, like I did with MAX :eyes:

Song 10: Susie Kang - Violet Fragrance - 1990 South Korea

Kind of a shift of gear after the last two. :D

Susie Kang had a career as a "Korean Music Idol" during the 90s, before switching to radio hosting and tv presenter. This song of hers was one of the big hits of 1990.
