Help on headphones

Thinking about finally getting around to purchasing some noise cancelling headphone. Leaning towards Sony. i want over ear dad phones not teeny tiny in-ear. Can anyone recommend/warn?

Sennheiser have always been my over ear brand of choice, though I haven't used anything but my Google pixel buds for years now (and they're amazing)

As an owner of Apple AirPods Max, I genuinely think they're bloody brilliant. The noise cancellation is fantastic, especially on the latest model. Really gorgeous sound too.

Same. I love my Momentum 4s. I don't think you'll find anything with better sound quality in the same price range. If noise cancellation is the most important thing then Sony is probably better.

How much are these Sennheiser headphones? I think Enya used the Open-Aire ones in the studio.

I use earphones now (wired and wireless*, no noise cancelling). I got some Sony headphones for £15 or something in 2024 but one side stopped working after a few months.

*The wireless Bluetooth ones are C-shaped buds so not technically in-ear, don't fall off, quite decent. Wired earphones I have are Panasonic, better than JBL and AKG in my experience/price range haha.

I’ve not had noise cancelling before but i’m going on a very very long flight so I’m thinking of upgrading - my current ones were like £30 and I like them just fine otherwise. West of £200 seems a little wrf but i get that they’ve gone a bit fetish. And will likely wait for sales.

I think the Sony 1000-XM* series are considered the gold standard. It’s up to XM6 now so the 5’s are already discounted.

I tried to go cheaper but they just sounded awful. Although the cheap ones I got from work had surprisingly good noise cancellation.
