The eternally cursed white elephant of British public transport has just been pushed back for at least another two years, with Heidi Alexander describing the whole thing as 'an appalling mess'.

Given the precarious state of Rachel Reeve's balance books, would Labour be better to just take the political hit and finally admit that it's dead?

It would be legitimately mental and unworkableto kill it off. The M6 doesn't have the capacity, let alone the rail network - even before getting onto there not being any other obvious alternative for next steps to meaningfully usefully upgrade the UK rail system.

(also the one thing Reeves is actually spending money on besides the NHS is infrastructure and capital investment, because she's been able 6o fiddle the fiscal rules on that front)

It is INSANITY that the UK still runs on what is essentially a Victorian rail network.
