I need housewarming gift ideas

A friend is just moving into a rented flat, he's always been in a house share before so this is his own place. I wanted to get him something practical as a gift.

What do you have that you find really useful?? I was thinking along the lines of a microwave but he got that today. We have one of those George Foreman grills which is great, so maybe that. But any other ideas?!

My current obsession is plants...so if I moved house I'd like a really nice plant.

Failing that...maybe something they wouldn't think to buy for themselves but something that can be quite fun and useful...like a soda stream!

We have a tassimo. Personally I think they're a waste of time. We hardly ever use ours. A nice cafetiere would be better.

We had a Dolce Gusto machine which broke after about 3 years. Now have a Tassimo, but I don't think I use it more than once or twice a month. I'd agree with Rachey that a cafetiere or AeroPress would be better.

Why do you not use it? Is it to much faff? I'd imagine he would make a single glass of coffee perhaps twice a day. But I know he doesn't really spend money on much, so if those pod things are expensive I'm not sure he'd keep buying them

Honestly star they're such a faff to use and the pods are expensive. We have one at work as well. It's much easier to boil a kettle.

I do. Traditional, not pods. It’s all about the AUTHENTICITÉ in this particular council hell

I personally think the pods and pod machines are a bit silly given that the traditional alternative is far from complicated and doesn’t limit the brands of coffee you can have, although i suppose that using them means that ground coffee doesn’t get tipped everywhere like it invariably does HERE
