Brian Connelly
John Denver
Barry White
Telly Savalas
Richard Wright

That takes us into the 80s where they become a bit thin on the ground.

...although The Young Ones were killed off in their series too so that's a SHIT argument, Octy.

Donna Summer
Whitney Houston
Davy Jones (Monkees)
Scott McKenzie

This is by no means definitive but, since 18/10/2009 we've had:

Andy Williams
Brian Hibbard (Flying Pickets)
Jet Harris (Shadows)
Johnny Preston
Bobby Farrell (Boney M)
Eddie Fisher

Renee (and Renato)

For real? I saw a brand new documentary on Christmas Number Ones on the Beeb over Christmas and she was a talking head (at least the woman who did the original vocal, not the model hired in the video). Unless it was old footage, but they had the likes of Alexandra Burke and the Military Wives pop up too so most of it was definitely filmed just recently.

Demis Roussos

Val Doonican, Percy Sledge and Diane Charlemange so close.

Oh the bside of The Stonk. At the time it was an official double A, but history as re-written that, such was the ultimate success of The Stonk.

I had no idea about this, and I'd never heard 'The Smile Song' before now. Not exactly her finest hour, was it?

Amy Winehouse
Eva Cassidy (duet with Katie Melua)
Falco

Natalie Cole was so close, as was Kirsty MacColl.

Swings and roundabouts though, Amy Winehouse was never voted off Strictly Come Dancing despite being the bookies favourite.
