I mean they are trying. Even if it's misguided and just for cock. It's a step up from the standard "Man I love black people" like you're arranging sex with A WHOLE RACE.

Also, the original tweeter has just got called out by one of the guys who messaged him who posted the whole conversation and to be honest he engaged with him as if he appreciated the question... he clearly wanted the D. So a bit unfair to shame him later for a bit of a laugh!

Does anyone know how blackface is thought about in Eastern Europe? There seems to be no end of occurrences of it like the above and from that celeb singing show where they impersonate other singers
 
I don't know about Eastern Europe, but I know in Italy it isn't a huge taboo. I work in Milan at an international school, so presumably one of the least 'Italian' places to be, and a lot of kids still came in on History day dressed in black face as Nelson Mandela, MLK etc.
 
Same in Spain, you may remember the Ruth Lorenzo Tina Turner turn in Stars in their Eyes only a few years ago.

There isn't a history of minstrel shows there and the percentage of black population is still very small compared to other minorities. I think it is starting to get noticed more because of social media and American cultural influence, but people like my mum wouldn't bat an eyelid at it.
 
We had an instance of black face with footballer Griezmann just last year. But it was a pretty big deal so I assume people are pretty aware of it being wrong.
 
I've still seen quite a few people doing it for Halloween in Ireland in recent years.
Back home in Germany there seems to be more talk about how problematic it is and about cultural appropriation in general, but you still see it during carnival celebrations (people dressing up as Asians, native Americans or blackface). And of course some are still saying "It's tradition!/It's fun/harmless!/My neighbour is black and he thinks it's hilarious!".
When I was a child I was "forced" to do blackface on a few occasions when we collected money for charity dressed as the Three Wise Men, which is a custom in Southern Germany. One of us always had to get their face painted black to be Melchior or Caspar, I don't remember which one. Always hated it. I think that's a no-go these days.
 
Oh dressing up as "Chinese", "African tribe" or "Arab" for carnival is very much a thing in some places in Spain. My cousin went as part of The Supremes one year :eyes: But then again the year before they did Queen and they had someone impersonating Freddie, May, etc. I don't think they see the difference even when pointed out.
