It seems to be picking up steam in terms of popularity, and might be a nice alternative to that other place.

Anyone on it?

I find the @ format quite unappealing

I've been saying it like 'Bluesky' with a 'skee' sound on the end, but it's just dawned on me that it's probably pronounced Blue Sky.

I've left Twitter but haven't migrated yet.
 
I wish there was an easier way of finding twitter accounts on there (and mutuals) but in the process of gradually moving over so I can rid myself of Twitter soon
 
Be very careful about choosing your interests on Bluesky. I chose gaming and it was clearly a mistake, because it is giving me some utter nonsense with the occasional right wing gamer nut, so now I am having to teach my algorithm QUALITY CONTROL
 
I’m just building a follow list first, because at the moment I’m still not seeing a lot of fun individuals actually posting therefor social reasons. It’s just kind of theme accounts that make their posts across all platforms at the same time.
 
I put my WORK accounts on it a while ago and just recently they have EXPLODED in terms of followers :disco:

I mean the replies justify it.

I really want to take our company off it but I can't justify the risk right now.
 
I’ve started moving over today. It’s going to be painful.
 
I had it a while back and it was pretty boring. After Steve Albini died, there seemed little point in being there so I deleted the app.
 
I like how twitter embeds that you often don't need to open the app to read it.
 
I’ve registered but until at least 80% of the people I follow have moved, it’ll be a bit of a slog. It took me 3-4 years of being registered on Twitter to even start using it properly (granted, I only had a BlackBerry back then).
 
Since I only use twitter for looking at stuff, I'm nowhere near the point of feeling I need to leave. If I go deep into replies it gets murky, but I seldom do that.

I never post or even reply - my engagement is very superficial.

So like Ellie, there's little point me signing up until everyone I want to follow is there. If it gains momentum I'll happily jump ship.

My engagement on Twitter is minimal as well. No posts, no replies, just browsing. I’m still counted as an active user by the app though, right? Which I don’t like.

I assume so. And feeling like you're a part of it to any degree is increasingly uncomfortable.
 
Well I've deactivated my main twitter account. I haven't really tweeted in at least five years. I still use it for breaking news and scandal, but the end of the block feature was just a threat to my mental health.

I've passively joined this.

This feels like the period when Dotmusic closed and we all needed a new home.
 
I worry about people defecting, but with neither site ending up with a sufficient mass of QUALITY POSTERS, and both sites just end full of LOSERS.
 
This is very book of stats, but from the reaction I get when I do Twitter related questions at my quizzes, I get the impression that younger people don't really use it any more to the extent that millennials do. Rather than a like for like replacement, I wonder if it'll now settle into a sort of slow decline in the way Facebook has now become near enough the sole preserve of our parents generation?

In terms of its value as a political tool, it does seem like its main success at the recent US election was in radicalising people in their mid-30s and up, rather than winning over a huge swathe of Gen Z and below, who generally get their news from other platforms.

But then really what's to stop Elon and co. buying up {insert latest social media platform here} :( These people basically have unlimited money. His shares in Tesla went up by $30 billion after the election.

I'm enjoying Bluesky, way more than sad Threads or toxic Twitter. But there is FAR TOO MUCH PORN.
 
Well I haven’t come across any porn yet, but having followed 70 accounts so far from the Twitter transfers, it’s far more pleasant.
 
I still, on a weekly basis, have people say something along the lines of

"I already told you that"
"No you didn't"
"Oh well I put it on facebook so you must have seen it"

I haven't been on facebook in about 10 years. The way people still use social media as a default sharing of information to other people is just baffling. The assumption that you can just put out a post and now everyone knows what you're up to. Is this how the world still works generally? The older generation are even worse than the younger generation.
