Is it time to try BLUESKY?

I am! It just assumes I want to see ALL GAY CONTENT, but really I just want sassy asides, not ENDLESS DICK.

In theory you can turn off nsfw content in your settings but that relies on people actually tagging their nsfw content as such...

I've downloaded the app again - seems quite nice in there for the moment. I can stalk a few ex-members of The Fall again.

I made an account yesterday evening
mostly for liking things, I hadn't posted much as much on Twitter this year anyway.

So far nice moon pictures, nature, music, Stonehenge etc.. and when I search there are Enya-related posts. Also several accounts that I knew of on Twitter have migrated/also joined Bluesky too. 😊🦋💙

My only particular issue so far is that when translating a post, it opens on the Google Translate page and can't go back from there (on desktop at least, haven't downloaded the mobile app yet)

I like that clicking a link within the app gives you the option to choose to open it directly in your default browser rather than within the app. That’s a major improvement from Twitter.

I get why it’s <username>.sky.social because most people (who watch ITV) would just think that was Twitter

My twitter algorithm decided to give me multiple posts fangirling over Baron Trump this morning and I'm now very much eyeing up the uninstall button.

I really want Bluesky to work but lots of the big companies don't use it still it seems. Will it ever really take off?

I still find it dreadfully boring and they still don’t have pics in DMs which is crazy.

The Great Migration never quite happened. It turned out a lot of people were happy to keep filling Musk's pockets. Bluesky got its terf invasion and I got bored. I am now using only Instagram and that's on the way out too.

Oh I still haven't spotted the Terfs there at Bluesky as much but I use it so sparsely maybe I've just not been looking hard enough.

I'm on it but after I left Twitter I realised I don't really need to be microblogging and so haven't had the energy on bluesky.

It's a bit embarrassing for me that although I DFE before leaving Twitter, if you search my username there (my more public social media username that would probably get found and background checked if applying for a job etc) all the replies towards me being extremely uncivil towards TERFs (which I obsessed over for the last year or two I was there), still pop up. Someone was digging on me the other day and asked what drama I was involved with that got all the angry responses towards me. Part of me wonders if I should re-register my username to post some bollocks for a while and nudge it under the surface level.

Should've known better and at least been civil, but I was "triggered" for a while.

The issue I have with bluesky is that you can't lock your account so you can't a) shitpost in privacy or b) lock down when annoying Americans who are obsessed with politics start interacting with a post.

For the time being there’s no toxicity on Bluesky, I go on it daily just for the news. I’ve completely stopped X/Twitter, couldn’t deal with the negativity anymore

I put my WORK accounts on it a while ago and just recently they have EXPLODED in terms of followers :disco:
One does seem to get followed by a large number of people for quite INEXPLICABLE REASONS. If they even are people

I’m quite sad that Threads has been RUINED before it even had a chance to grow but it’s owned by YUCKY ZUCKY so honestly what did I EXPECT

I’m glad theyve stopped forcing threads onto instagram. What a shitshow

I managed to resist the Threads tactic of inserting cropped posts into Facebook to pique your interest enough to click on it and go through the sign up page to show the remaining lines of the post

I don't really trust a platform that relies on clickbait to get you to sign up!

The longer it goes on, the more obvious it becomes that Twitter was a moment in time, a point in the history and evolution of social media. The time has gone and trying to get the alternatives to take off in the same way is as difficult as trying to, I dunno, get Kasabian to sell out 8 nights at Wembley rather than Oasis.

Instagram kept forcing me to tap on posts in Threads, which put me off Threads AND Instagram. In the end I don’t want anything else by Instagram’s owner in my life, his behavior during and after the inauguration just put me off him and his empire in a major way

I still have IG but don’t really post much anymore.

I never got on Threads

Found about something called Clearsky that let's people see what lists a user is on, who they're blocking and who they're blocked by

This is being used for the exact drama you'd expect

Kind of glad I didn't really get into Bluesky and considering sacking that off as well. Don't know why I didn't expect it to just turn into another Twitter (albeit not owned by a Nazi)
