Israel-Gaza War

It's starting to feel like this might really be it :(

How much death is ever going to be enough? Never forget that our leaders support this and willingly went along with it.

The UN had a vote to call for an immediate ceasefire and Israel have not only ignored it but angrily mocked the resolution, calling the UN “irrelevant”, like a defensive, petulant child. Did they expect unilateral support for what they’re doing?

The US, of course, voted against it.

It's an oversimplification, I know, but the US is always going to stand behind Israel because of their role in its creation. To do anything else would be to admit failure.

I know you're right, but there's a difference between standing behind Israel as a legitimate state and standing behind Israel as they kill innocent people. Where do we draw the line? If Israel nuked Gaza into the sea would they still stand by them? Until the US grows a pair and tells Israel to back down, Israel will continue the assault. Most Jewish people now don't even agree with what's happening. It's like the entire world is standing watching 3 governments (Israel, US & UK) ignore the advice and pleading of everyone else and just carrying on regardless.

And with it, a new generation of terror cells are born around the world.

If this was about the US growing a pair, we would have solved this already. The US actions are a defence of the whites supremacist neoliberal world order, an order that its entire existence and way of life is founded upon. This is about ideology.

I think this has been asked before, but when are Jews "White enough" for White supremacists to defend Israel, but NOT "White enough" for them to chant "Jews will not replace us"?

I think this is geopolitical first, and ideological second. The US has poured insane amounts of resources into Israel since its modern conception and, regardless of who's in Congress, Israel will always be one of America's most valuable geopolitical assets in retaining its position as the sole global superpower. Expecting it to part with one of its most valuable investments and cease pushing its interests is absurd.

Geopolitics happens BECAUSE of ideology, babes. In this case because of the logics of imperialism.

Sure, I agree. But it's real and tangible wealth that gives a nation global legitimacy, not which ideology it subscribes to. And this expectation of America to suddenly drop one of THE most valuable geopolitical assets on the globe is ridiculous. Israel has always historically been an economically and politically strategic area. Virtually every ancient empire conquered it or occupied it, even BEFORE its religious significance to non-Jews.

The ideological justifications for war are a given for any conflict, any nation, and any historical period. EVERY country waging war for territory and resources is doing it because they think they have ideological 'supremacy' or because they 'deserve' it. And we can voice moral outrage over that supremacy all we want but that's equally just as ideological. In the end, resources and territory are what nations fight for, because that's what gives them the legitimacy to exercise global influence, not vague and abstract ideological and moral standards that don't actually exist.

Not only is this language explicitly, unapologetically genocidal, coming from the leader of this terror state, but its religious fundamentalism. 20 years after Muslims were terrorised and criminalised by western nations, are any of our leaders gonna call this shit out?

No, cos they’re FUCKING HYPOCRITES. And this is what?

IDEOLOGICAL. :UngratefulBastards:

Somebody put that clip of the protest in London on LinkedIn and the responses were full of people saying "what about Israel", "what about British people" and "whatever happened to Brexit"

That's enough internet for today.

all the rhetorical gymnastics circulated in the media to build a consensus around Israel's actions are failing

we all need to understand that our freedom is impossible without the freedom of the Palestinians - and i'm not saying this metaphorically.

anyone who isn't actively involved in writing to their MPs / attending demonstrations / educating themselves and others on the matter / engaged in the boycott, divestment, sanctions - what ARE you doing?

I walked past two people selling poppies at lunch time. One of their banners said "All gave some, some gave all" and then "never forget". But we have forgotten, haven't we?

THAT CUNT Braverman is doing a media tour calling the Pro Palestine protests “hate marches”

And Sunak has sacked a junior minister for calling for a ceasefire

I’m incandescent watching the news

I was just watching a documentary about the memories of the children who lived to see the German atrocities during the Axis occupation. The then children now elderly people, were still in so much pain and the scenes they've witnessed and described are of incomprehensible cruelty. When we read about wars and conflicts and victims and the number of casualties, even if there is a ceasefire today or tomorrow, or manage to find an agreement of some sort, we can't really comprehend the size of trauma everyone who has lived in this situation will have to carry on with forever.
