JADE (Thirlwall) - Angel of my Dreams

She SHOULD be a Eurovision thing. Would get us at least 10 places higher than Olly Alexander, if she does that checkout roll on the Swiss stage next May

:padam:

Streams have exploded for this. Was 2m odd a couple of days ago now sitting over 4m on spotify

There’s only 7k between #16 and #21 though, so it’s all pretty good. I don’t think I would expect it to fire up into the top five or anything, but if it can hold top 40 for a good few weeks on Spotify that should give it a solid top 20 official chart run which I think would be a complete win.

overall streams though must mean this is doing a fair whack worldwide?

Yes, she's on very nearly 5.5m worldwide - and that's approx 1.5m in the UK.

Doesn't look like she's charting on Spotify anywhere else other than Ireland though, which is a much smaller market.

She was doing promo in the US before release wasn't she - like on Z100 in New York, I didn't really see any US promo from the other three...

You forget just how much the rest of the world contributes - even for UK centric acts. Even Padam at its UK height I think was only getting like 20% from the UK.

The intro and outro make no sense and feel shoehorned. Everything in between is brilliant though!

Down to #22 today. Jesy was #27 and Perrie #57.

Still dropping in terms of both position and number of streams more gently than either Jesy or Perrie did.

She’s been added to the cover of Hot Hits UK and up to track #8. May help stabilise her, though it has less impact than it did a year or two back.

Straight onto the B List at radio one as well.

That Jesy spotify chart position flatters to deceive. She was far closer to Perrie's number of streams on day 7 than Jade's.

219k Jade
139k Jesy
123k Perrie

The singles are shipping on 13 September, which feels rather late...

Makes you wonder if they had made no decision to release them until they were sure of its reception. Let's hope that it doesn't fall too far that it still gets a significant boost in chart terms.

I always root for Jade as she seems like such a fantastic person and this song really POPS. The music video really sets it off too.

Down to 39 now. Unless something happens to kick it back up again, it looks like it's probably going to have quite a short chart run unfortunately.

She's still tracking ahead of the others, but the pattern is more or less the same. Perrie also suffered from a Taylor Swift album release in her second week, which of course pushed her down by around 25 places on the Spotify dailies.

Angel of My Dreams: 13-17-17-16-16-19-22-27-31-39
Boyz: 12-19-24-17-16-22-27-38-45-50
Forget About Us: 15-34-35-41-44-47-57-88-113-119

Nah it should hang around a good while in the top 30/40 I think if it stabilises around 40-50 on Spotify. however I think it will climb again in a week or two as she continues to get her name out there and the playlisting does its job.

how very MELODRAMATIC to say it will probably have a short chart run! it's not dropped out of Spotify :D why does nobody give anything time anymore before declaring a FLOP

I'm just looking at the chart runs the other three experienced, and this one seems to be only performing moderately better.

It's obviously not a flop, the audience it was most squarely aimed at has received it rapturously. It's a question of whether she can cross over in any meaningful way, or if it is indeed a fanbase/gay interest only sort of hit. Which is fine, if that's the ceiling! I'm just an old school chart watcher and I do think it's a bit of a shame if a #7 and out is the best a pop song of this quality can hope for.

She’s had a comparably terrible start on airplay, so she still has upside if radio can get behind it and help it cross over. All its success at the moment is down to the frenzy from core pop fans (and gays).

Perrie’s songs are way more accessible so she had that going for her.

The misleading part of the Radio airplay chart has always been the Radio 2 audience, which is the biggest share but has little correlation to singles performances. Katy Perry will be getting most of her audience from her Radio 2 A list placement, plus the song is SHIT, so it has that going against it.

I still think if Jade can get good rotation on ILR and Radio 1, she has upside to go yet.

Radio and streaming are quite different audiences, so it certainly doesn’t assist to a huge extent. But ultimately, having several million people exposed to your song each week can only help.

She’s falling a bit quicker than I would like, but she’s well placed on playlists and with radio building she should hopefully stabilise a bit, even if it is low top 100 sort of place. She’s #11 in the first full midweeks so she should remain top 20 easily, likely top fifteen.

I was quite surprised this only made B List on Radio 1.

At the same time though… how influential is radio now? Even for people driving do they not just connect the mobile to Spotify and stick a playlist on?

I am just really impressed by the worldwide streaming numbers this is doing, and that its still in the spotify charts tbf. Will the physical singles do anything?

It is, but so was Dancing On My Own. As such clearly Jade is in this for the LONG HAUL :disco:

I think they’re just very different audiences with not all that much crossover.

Based on the UK airplay (and US as well), listening figures are down from 20 years ago but still rather impressive numbers, given streamings impact. I guess older audiences and people that don’t love music but like it on in the background will tend to radio it rather than faff around with streaming.

Radio seems much more aligned with the iTunes chart and what people that still consume in that way are into than the streaming chart.
