The Isle Of Wight one is pretty big. She was quite high up the bill, main stage 50000 folk, she was seen filmed and photographed on the lash the night before and pulled out cos she was "exhausted". That's pretty cunty.

You know what, fair play to her for including all those organisations in her statement - she didn't have to do that, and maybe they'll get some new followers and donations.

The bit I'm still surprised at is the fact that clip was officially released, and presumably went through multiple people who didn't see anything wrong with it - also Mo Gilligan hasn't said anything despite laughing along, which is a shame as I quite like him usually.

I agree that this is probably bullshit BUT to be fair to her for a second - there are still plenty of cis LGBT people who throw that word around all the time. Do I think those people are trash? Yes. Is it possible that Jess Glynne's circle of gays includes people like that? Quite possibly!

As a CIS male, I thought that apology was decent and displayed learning.

That she didn't realise it was a slur, is certainly a stretch. That said RuPaul only stopped using she male about 5 years ago. She's quite feasibly been in a bit of a bubble during her time as a pop star.

Her music is terrible

You’re right! Also to her credit, it does seem like she genuinely feels bad and won’t do it again. I know I’ve said offensive things in my life (and probably will continue to), so I hope this is a learning experience tor her
 
I mean that I will probably accidentally say offensive things! And hopefully learn from it! I don’t want to offend or be harmful
 
To add, and I mean this with love and acknowledge myself within the problem, but I have DESPISED cancel culture since before it was a thing. I get that it's a cultural phenomenon, but it's a pretty grotty one.

Possibly worth mentioning that Jess Glynne is herself a member of the LGBT community (she identifies as bisexual). In short, these things are complex :tongueout:

I think it’s absolutely vile. The rest of what someone brings to the world is totally ignored and everyone finds a convenient place to dump their own rubbish

I understand that, and I definitely don't like seeing people getting hounded by mobs online. However, when someone in the public eye does something like this what IS the right course of action? Should people just shut up and leave it unchallenged? The initial tweet about it that got traction is from a trans person - don't they have the right to criticise this?
 
I should probably say for the record that I'm in favour of these situations being treated as genuine teaching moments, rather than having the person in question excommunicated from culture at large (not that I'm convinced that ever really HAPPENS unless they're a paedophile or something).

Mob culture on social media is the problem. Call out problematic stuff, stop defining them by it and stop using it as an excuse to ruin someone's life.

Obviously there are exceptions to the rule, but as you say, life is complicated.
