i'm really meh about her this time around. it's all pleasant and everything but it's heading in too much of mor direction musically for me to care.

I feel a little the same, though I will still check out the album. In her Lisa Stansfield without the hits career trajectory she is definitely on So Natural. Still a great performer though:

The album track they released is sweet.
 
So obliging for Davood to fall into the bottom two just to give Jessie double exposure.
 
Not a huge fan of "Alone" but it's certainly the sort of song that could become a crossover hit for her if it got shoved in the face of the right audience.

Selfish Love remains my favourite of the new ones so far. 4 days until the album!
 
Jessie Ware does not DEAL IN CROSSOVER HITS. She is strictly a flopstar. It's a part of her charm.

She is edging DANGEROUSLY CLOSE to the realm of pure MoR this time though.
 
Not listened to the album yet but Your Domino is great and the double punch of that and Alone is LIFE ITSELF!
 
Sam is shite. She needs to steer clear of those moments.

I still feel like this album lacks a STUNNER like Running or Cruel.
 
I forgot all about this and went to the George Michael reissue instead. Oh dear...

I really like Your Domino but it's not very her is it? For anyone else that would've been the lead single.
 
I've not indulged in the album yet, but this has REALLY been doing the trick for me this week :disco:
 
So excited to get submerged in the SULTRINESS of this album.
 
The back to back to back to back of Alone - Selfish Love - First Time - Hearts(acoustic might be even better) is such a great core of an album.

Domino is a little overproduced for me, too much going on. Overall a solid 7 or 8.
Some high heights, some songs on the plodding side of things.

What is with the insipid reviews?

I know I’m a blind loon but it’s wonderful. Love To Love in the tradition of Midnight Caller of being an iconic bonus track.
 
I got a bit of a dry chuckle out of her Guardian interview today in which she claimed a recent bad review of one of her gigs (in The Guardian) sent her into a tailspin that required months of hypnotherapy. Two pages overleaf, a different reviewer gives her new album a distinctly lukewarm review.
 
I found it all very middle of the road with only a handful of exceptions. I mean I'm still in awe of that voice, but it feels a little like her sound has slipped into a comfortable rut to me on the whole.

It does sound like it could sit right between Aphrodite and Better Than Today instead of Illusion. Very true.
 
I imagine she'd be quite funny. Surely no-one wants to listen to Sam Smith speak.
 
The album is quite a grower. Middle section is great. My favourites/the songs which will be added to my BEST OF JESSUS playlist:

The podcast is amazing. Just like Friday Night Dinner. She’s just so naturally funny, I adore her.

Obviously every second of Sam Smith was fucking appalling however.

you know i haven't even given the album a single spin. is it any good.

i still love her to bits but the last few singles have been so painfully mor. even selfish love (which i thought was quite nice) felt super geriatric. and that's coming from me.
 
It's a good album. I don't think it's got the wall to wall highs of Tough Love but the middle section is very very good.
 
The album has definitely grown on me. I was so disappointed when I first got the album as it seemed far too MOR and she's lost the more interesting production from the first and, to a lesser extent, second album.

I guess the dance stuff was sort of forced on her because of the success she'd had with SBTRKT and actually it's the ballads that come more naturally to her. There are some definite Sade/Anita Baker comparisons to be made from this album and that can only be a good thing really.
 


Currently being slated for condoning excessive packaging and being a sell out all over facebook.
