Joanne Rowling and other TERFs

Yeah, I'm actually quite curious to see where this is going - it's clear she isn't going to stop, and it's going to loom over her online presence (and any future books) forever. I don't think she'll become quite as single-minded and deranged as Linehan (who was literally posting about nothing else for the past couple of years), but it does feel like she's completely down this rabbit hole and there's nothing anybody could say or do to change her views.

Well she stole her (male) pen name from a conversion therapist so I guess it's no SHOCKER that she's HOT for THAT

Not sure if this is new but apparently she's been liking some tweets that support the ban of gay conversion therapy.

I doubt she gives two fucks, sat there counting her billions...

She's spent the day retweeting fan art from small children. I smell a meltdown.

she’s been doing they for ages- she has a new book project thing out...

Will she really care about some fansites?

CLOSE THEM DOWN. And CANCEL HER.

Rather than outright cancelling her, what I really want is for her to do an appearance on TV to promote the book and to be GRILLED/held accountable/torn apart/exposed by the interviewer. That would be the perfect humiliation.

Of course she'll probably just go on Jonathan Ross since he's a TERF sympathiser now.

Whcih she’s currently getting in spades from TERFs...

The way she responded to Stephen King shows that she’s not dealing well with being shunned by the more liberal celebrities.

Yes she’s obviously rolling in cash and the admiration of TERFs but also being rejected by so many after being loved and adored is obviously getting to her.

I suppose one good thing about her having such a high profile is that, even though it means she has a large platform it also means she will get completely publicly dragged by loads of people each time she pipes up about this.

She was like this with Scottish independence (calling those who wanted it BLOOD AND SOIL NATIONALISTS, and somehow announcing Voldemort was a nationalist despite not being related to any nation in the books), and with Jeremy Corbyn (because despite claiming COMMIE ICON Jessica Mitford was her personal hero, socialism was a bridge too far now she's a zillionaire,) but those things have/had end-dates, she's just going to go on about how trans people existing is THE REAL CONVERSION THERAPY ACTUALLY forever and ever. How depressing.

I genuinely think we will look back at this in 10-15 years and it will be as embarrassing as all those people who around the turn of the millennium were "for" gay rights but drawing the line at marriage because "definitions" or adoption because "a child needs two parents" etc etc.

I would hate to have lost Atwood. The Handmad's Tale and Cat's Eye were so important to 15 year old me, I'd hate for them not to be important to 35 year old me (when I get there, ahem).

Someone translate "illiberal trend intensified by our national reckoning" please? Sounds like just words to me.

“people are criticizing us. We don’t like it”

They seem to be saying that if someone like Rowling tweets incredibly offensive, dangerous, shit-stirring statements, that we shouldn't be able to strongly criticise those statements? I keep seeing people like Alison Moyet call criticism a "pile-on". Well no, I don't think so. It just means that a hell of a lot of people disagree with something and are expressing themselves.

So now this tweet has been unearthed

which is stupid but also
