Just a Notion (3rd single)

I don't know about all mixed bags (from Arrival onwards at least), but yes, they all contain a track or two which may be considered a BIT DUBIOUS.

The fact they have decided to release one as a single ahead of the album is a bit concerning, but I'm deluding myself with 'well, singles aren't REALLY what they used to be', treating it as a grat track and kidding myself that the rest is the quality of the first two.

And that's assuming I don't like it that much in the first place...

In a way it has piqued my curiosity for the album because the three tracks we’ve had so far give absolutely no indication whatsoever of the direction they’ve gone in.

We have been GIFTED with a new photo at least.

Looking at Frida's lovely scarf/facemask nearly distracted me from Bjorn's hairline.

I guess if I was going to compare it with any of their previous efforts it would be Why Did It Have To Be Me/Happy Hawaii.

The vocals at the beginning sound a bit buried but once the refrain kicks in it is rather charming. I do appreciate how it is one of those songs nearly all of it sounds like the chorus too.

I think the album might turn out to be like a mini compilation. The singles have all been very different, and there's an Xmas song slap bang in the middle of it.

Oh it's FUN

For us schlager lovers out there all the more so

I can see why it wouldn't easily have slotted into Voulez Vous :D

Yes I was attempting to be cool and all but I do like this. It’s a nice throwback to early ABBA and I appreciate that Benny has gone all out with the cheese in the backing track. In the first 30 seconds or so I thought it was a little too MUCH… and I continued to think that but then just kind of settled into it and smiled.

This. I wonder with them being aware of their legacy and the likelihood that this is the last ever album, have they attempted to kind of cover the entire breadth of the ABBA sound in one album?

Ooh I like. This all feels very nostalgic for me and I am here all day for it. @Soldi take my handbag, as I am heading to the dance floor. 💃

Plus I guess the way it was conceived means we were unlikely to get another Visitors.

I liked it a bit more on second listen. It's really just not my kind of thing. Hopefully the album will offer some more substantial stuff too. * Loses shit to Keep An Eye On Dan *

The first two singles did lull me into the idea that we might!
Well I guess they were the original two of this lot, weren't they? And then those two became five in the rumours a while back, and then finally a new album. I wonder what has been pulled together to make album?

During the Zoe Ball launch event, didn't Benny say that the final track had only been finished a week or two before? I wonder if that was Just A Notion, given that presumably it would have needed not as much work to finish off?

I guess they put the release date in the diary to fit around the show once that go the go ahead, so I imagine finishing the album was working to that deadline.

Hard to forget that 3 months ago I never thought they'd release anything ever again (and I was more than happy with that)! Still, I'm really glad it's happening and it's all right up my street so far.

Yes, I've seen a fair bit of GRIPING on Abbatalk, particularly regarding the release of Just A Notion. Can't believe that after a forty year wait people now seem to think they have some sort of entitlement over new material.

Well I unapologetically love it. It’s naff as anything but considering what it based on and what is basically is that’s no surprise.

The ‘Just a Notion’ refrain is delightful. Why not.

In fairness, I’m GRIPED that they thought this pile of OLD TOOT was more worthy of release than Just Like That.

Though if they ever released it now, you'd never hear the end of the "the Nana/Sax/Original/Remix was so much better" discussion. Maybe it's for the best.

Oh I've seen fans moaning about there only being 10 tracks, and that the album will come in at less than 40 minutes (I think).

These people would have been creaming their knickers a couple of months ago had Just A Notion alone been added to a vinyl reissue of More Gold. And bought it regardless even if it hadn't.

I mean I still can't get over the fact we have a NEW ABBA ALBUM IN TWO WEEKS :disco:

Ok, I’m going to come out with this as it feels like a good time to say it.

I don’t love ANYTHING I’ve heard so far. The ballad is boring, the uptempo not quite enough for me and Just A Notion should have been left in the vaults.

I’m happy there is new Abba music and of course I will be buying the album, but the whole thing so far is just leaving me a little bit, well, to be honest, :meh:
