I listened to three seconds of that Tiesto and Rita Ora thing earlier and it just sounded exactly the same as every other song so I’m officially done with pop of the modern variety. I shall slip into my sackcloth and ashes and listen to Arvo Pärt instead *holy emoji*
 
He's been posting videos on social media begging people to stream it and buy it so it can go to #1. It's really sad.

He's just mad that his Christmas collab with Mariah wasn't the one that went #1.

Also his song is rubbish.

I'm sorry to tell you that doesn't make it a hit, an artist with such a high profile and a new single in ages is going to debut in the top 5 everywhere. The song has to stay up there to be a certain hit. Droping 2-10 in USA in its second week pretty much tells it's been quite disappointing.

I would like to point out that I am not a Bieber fan by any means but I liked this one. It has been by no means the flop that was touted here.

2-10-11-15 so far in the US I think. Any hit song stays in the top 10 for months there, so you can tell it hasn't been very successful. Let's say a very moderate hit, but given the artist and that it was a new single in a while, not good enough.

So if it stays Top 20 for months it is not a hit? After an initial fall from 2-10 I would say it has remained pretty steady. :D
 
I think 'underperforming' is probably a reasonable statement. For a lead single from a new campaign that he was aggressively promoting, I don't see how what it has achieved so far could be seen as anything better than that.

As I said, I don't think it's a flop, but I certainly think that HUGE is equally off the mark.

If it stays for months in the top 20 I would call it a hit, yes. I can't see it happening because he'll release anything else quickly.

Yes, that's it. Many artists can only dream with a #2 song in the US, but for the Bieber not being #1 and dropping so fast is not that good.

Well 'hit' is always a strange term. Some people would argue that one week on the chart at the lowest position would qualify it as a hit.

True. I would always say Top 5 on both sides of the Atlantic with 4 weeks plus Top 20 a hit, and not underperforming for any artist. As Alla says it is subjective.
 
 
Purpose was a good album which I enjoyed IN SPITE OF him. These two new songs are total and utter GARBAGE and I am back to having ZERO interest in him.
 
I don't know how you can base a song about sex around the word YUMMY, which is truly one of the least erotic words around. Too many Ys.
