Yes! This is why it ranks right up there for me. Every song places you right in a summer day/evening, right up to the incredible end of Nocturn. Listening to this album on your own somewhere on the beach or in the countryside on a late summer day is one of the most amazing things you can do I swear

People didn't always lock their front doors. These days, we lock the world out for our own safety. But if we shut out the unknown, do we stifle our creativity? And we can't lock out the inherent truth - that "harm is in us".

The refrain at the end of the song - "We let the weirdness in" - was recorded by Kate, then reversed. Kate then learnt the reversed vocal, sung that, and reversed it again. So we hear "We let the weirdness in" but it sounds - weird. Genius!

She does so much vocal experimentation on this album, I'd forgotten about the weird PHLEGMY THING in this!
 
"Get Out of My House" is always my choice The Dreaming track, but you can't go wrong with most of it

13. Waking The Witch
Hounds of Love, 1985

"Help this blackbird - there's a stone around my leg"

Part of The Ninth Wave, Kate's concept piece about a woman (or maybe man, but let's say woman) drowning in the middle of the ocean after going overboard. She is submerged under the water and is drifting out of consciousness. Voices from her past try to rouse her awake, but the ominous "Don't you know you've kept him waiting? Look who's here to see you" warns us that what awaits her is not going to be pleasant. We then hear where her mind has taken her - to her own witch trial, with the Devil (also voiced by Kate) as the judge. If she floats, she's a witch; if she drowns, she's dead.

"There's a ghost in our home just watching you without me"

Back to our drowning lady. Her mind now takes her to her home where she can see her family. She can't ask for their help. She can't reach out to them. She can't tell them she loves them. The muffled, reversed and chopped-up vocals emulate her desperate attempt to communicate with them ("Listen to me listen to me baby help me help me baby talk to me talk to me PLEASE PLEASE talk to me"), but she is utterly helpless.

LOVE! The empty feeling of seeing your family but them not seeing or hearing you as you drift away... Captured so well (it's Kate so of course it is!)
 
Probably unpopular but "Watching.." is easily my least fave on the Ninth Wave.

In so much as it's a 100/10 as opposed to a billion out of 10 like the others.
