Katy Perry - Daisies

is she releasing the same day as Rain On Me? :o it'll be 2013 all over again, only this time neither is A-list
 
In hindsight, it's very telling how her output post-Dr. Luke & Bonnie McKee has been a continuous struggle to score a hit and makes me wondering how involved she was during all the songwriting for, say, Teenage Dream. She's never been problematic and she comes across unoffensive, her fall from the top has been a mystery to me.

Never Really Over should be on a new album

Hasn't she released a couple more others too since then? Was Harley's in Hawaii a single-single?
 
I’d be surprised if she even manages to launch a proper comeback now, there seems to be little nostalgia for her, or many of her hits despite having so many number ones - Firework and maybe Roar are probably the only ones that are still being heard regularly in the public consciousness.

I just don’t think she has the talent or artistry to be able to do it, and it can’t be long until her label lose faith altogether. Chained and Never Real Over are her only semi-hits in years.
 
Gaga has outlasted her because she has “reinvented” herself to some degree at each turn albeit with the occasional misfire. I always got the impression from Katy that she was never interested in deviating from the tried and true formula of Dr. Luke/ McKee etc. On paper, Witness should have done as well as its predecessors but I don’t think there is an appetite for a fifth Katy Perry album. Also she is 36 this year and that is a death knell for any female pop artist post 2000.
 
Didn't "Swish Swish" do moderately well?

I think her problem was she was too generic for too long. She didn't eventually create a signature sound or look that people could miss.
 
She had enough of a signature sound. I'm not sure there's a "problem" - she's still well liked and has a huge back cat full of hits that still get streams and radio play. If anything maybe just a combination of Witness being low quality, the haircut which reduced her sex appeal to the locals, and becoming a bit less "cool" into her 30s. She can still get a good Never Really Over-sized hit with the right song (and it was a big hit).
 
Let us not forget that Never Really Over really was a MEGA BOP, and it deserves so much more :disco:



I also have to watch the Bon Appetit video every couple of months too, to remind myself that is actually HAPPENED :D



I also secretly stan Bon Appetit too, but only really after a bottle of DWW :disco:

Yes despite being a hit, NRO really had the potential to do more. It was an uphill battle coming off the lackluster performance of Witness (Hey Hey Hey :zombie:) and #365 (somewhat criminally) never did the business I think they were hoping for, to be the springboard for NRO to smash :(
 
Do you think that the whole Dr. Luke scandal and a ton of artists turning their back on him except for Katy put her into a negative light? She never came forward to address rumours or issues like others did to a certain extent (not neccesarily supporting Kesha), I mean Kelly Clarkson just said something along the lines of "he's an awful human being and I hope I won't ever work with him again" and he was also responsible for a couple of her biggest hits while Katy just avoided the questions.
maybe I'm looking a lot into it but it's a recurring theme I see in other forums.

Was it really a big hit? I felt like it kind of came and went and that its (limited) momentum was squandered. I want her to do well but I think she thrived more in a 2008-2014 landscape.

Literally no one outside a few dozen twitter/forum gays care. The general public wouldn't really associate Luke with all her biggest hits, let alone keep tabs on what artists, he formerly had worked with, have denounced him (Says me with my Kim Petras avatar)

Daisies is produced by The Monsters & The Strangerz (Dua's Break My Heart, Selena's Vulnerable, Zedd's The Middle etc - their discog is a mixed bag so who KNOWS)

Ok well "Vulnerable" is arguably my top two song of the year so this is promising.
 
He's not involved - it's written by Katy, Jon Bellion and J Kash. He just commented, he's obviously heard it already.

and as IF this or anything else will be a Taylor collab :D
