Shocked at how (relatively) low Waking Up in Vegas is. It was huge in the States, at least, and much more successful than the dreadful Thinking of You from the same album…

These stats are weirdly impressive though. I’d call her a legacy act but her post 2015 flops have still done really really well on the whole. Well aside from the last album anyway

But yeah - it's crazy to me that she - and just as importantly, the team around her - are so incapable of figuring out how to actually get her a hit again when she's clearly got SO much goodwill to be racking up streaming numbers like that even for most of her releases once she stopped having #1s, and when she's still such a draw as a 'big name' figure to have performing at huge events / filling out arenas. I don't understand why she doesn't delve back into the kind of pop rock song she did early on (esp the sort of sound she played with a lot before her big breakout moment), given it's had such a resurgence in recent years.

I agree! Honestly, I don't think the problem is the production as much as the fact that she's been stuck telling the same story for years. Every comeback attempt seems to boil down to "they counted me out, but I'm stronger than ever," and it's reached the point where it feels almost parody-level.

A new team might help, but only if they're willing to challenge her creatively instead of feeding the same narrative back to her. I don't know if another huge hit is realistically in the cards, but she could absolutely make an album that people respect and are curious enough to check out. I do think a more radical creative reset could help. Not just changing genres, but changing collaborators entirely, especially bringing in more female producers and writers with a fresh perspective. I'm not convinced she's ever going to score another massive mainstream hit, though. It might be a bit like expecting someone like Liz Phair or Alanis Morissette to suddenly have a HIT. Right now she seems more interested in proving her critics wrong than giving listeners something new to connect with.
