Strange that Spacey doesn't deny Rapp's claims.

Weinstein is still in full denial mode.
 
14 really is a total no-go zone. for me anything under 18 (if you're not the same age) is pushing the limit.

i wouldn't be surprised if this really escalates and costs him his career. and i can't help but wonder if this behaviour (if any of the rumour mill output is true) is due to being (publicly) closeted for so long.
 
Spacey is a LONDON QUEEN isn't he? Hasn't anyone on Moopy come across him?
 
I remember seeing him at a preview of the West End production of Spring Awakening, the musical about a group adolescents’ first sexual experiences :square: I think he was involved in its production actually. Purely for the love of theatre no doubt.

Besides anything else, I hate “coming out” declarations that are flowered up with phrases like “choosing to live my life as a gay man” - it’s like it’s trying it’s very hardest to avoid being inoffensive by implying a) sexuality is a choice and b) it’s changeable.
 
i'm a bit ambivalent about the unsurprising cancellation. it was becoming house of diminishing returns but i would've liked to see claire vs frank for a while.

i think there's an important distinction to be made - the choice is not whether you are gay but whether you accept it and lead your life openly as such or in the closet.

But it sounds like he's been living fairly openly for a long time - presumably the only reason he's remained in the 'closet' professionally speaking is because of the perceived impact on his career and because until now, no-one had explicitly spoken about experiences they've had with him. This doesn't really feel like the statement of someone who isn't ashamed to be a member of the gay community, it comes across to me as someone who wants to reassure people that he has been with women and he still could be so don't panic and continue employing him in high profile movies and TV shows.

Again, whilst I accept that, this isn't what he's saying in this case. And if it is then there are better terms to use than "living as a gay man".
 
I think I'm being naïve here, but because Spacey has never been a sex symbol I just can't see how coming out earlier would have hurt his career, particularly in the last 10 years.

Absolutely, it can be read a number of ways. I appreciate your reading of what he said, but I don't think of it that way, entirely. I'm sure he said what he said for the reasons you've described, but to me, the idea of 'living your truth' is complex and very often does involve the kind of choices implied in what he said. It's not always just about shame.

Neither can I, but I guess maybe it's not so much an age but a generational thing. There are a lot of actors now who have never been IN the closet - but maybe if you've lived through times where coming out was career poison, it's not such a straightforward choice despite what you see happening around you.
 
Production has been suspended on House of Cards Season 6 (which was announced to be the final season yesterday and had started shooting).

I always disliked him and he disgusted me as an actor (he always played characters that he made them look like proper sleazebags, probably because of his face and voice) and the way he handled the whole thing goes to show what a shitbag he is.
The only thing that I really regret is not seeing another season of House Of Cards which I actually loved.
 
God, he really IS like Frank Underwood.

His statement is shameful. And I hate the fact he's tagged his sexuality with this sorry mess.

The Sun's front page today (sadly blocked at work) is something like "SPACEY SHOWED ME HIS CLOCK" with some (from what I could ascertain as I passed by it in disgust in the office downstairs) tenuous link to him showing off his fancy watch to try and get some fella into bed...

I think we've only stopped funding the Mail's hate, we could easily block the Sun and the Express (unless they've got a really hot story about the princess of hearts)
