Now, see the BEST thing about Mandy Smith was the fact that EVERY TIME she did a live (mimed) performance, it always looked like it was the first time she'd ever seen a microphone in her ENTIRE LIFE :D

Oh I think you can spot a Kim vocal a mile off - she's very distinctive and has a real plaintive quality to it.

As Sheena says, she's remarkably good live!
 
One thing I WILL say - they KNEW how to pick the singles from Kim's albums, Dancing in the Dark and Heart Over Mind aside, perhaps. Though having European Only ones was a bit annoying. Who in their right mind would pick Heart Over Mind over Million Miles Away?
 
I know it was a big fat flop of epic proportions, but I do find It's Here GORGEOUS in a 90s MOR way. Songs like that are were her voice really shines IMO.

They always picked the right singles- the fact that most of our top tens are all singles says it all.

I still find it bizarre the stuff of hers that flopped though- I mean, it's a WEIRD OLD WORLD when "The Second Time" and "The Touch" barely made an impact and they had to resort to "Rage To Love" to get her back in the top 20...

I do love It's Here. The intro, the keyboard riff, her vocals, all lovely. The Love Moves album got a lot of stick and while it was nowhere near as good as Close, it's still a nice album. I think the problem was that Kim went TOO FAR into the MOR territory and it didn't work.

The guitar solo at the end of Can't Get Enough gets me EVERY TIME, and I love the Eurovisony cheesiness of World In Perfect Harmony despite the dodgy lyrics.

It made sense at the time, to me anyway. They stuck You Keep Me Hangin' On on the cd single, along with Love Is Holy for anyone who it passed by. A Miracle's Coming is the standout for me though
 
I even love her stab at the "should be untouchable" disco joy that is "If I Can't Have You"...

"It's Here" really is gorgeous - once again, amazing synths that round out the chorus. It's one of those insanely uplifting songs and never fails to raise a smile.

'If I Can't Have You' was my introduction to Kim. I played the shit out of it from some Big Breakfast compilation album that I bought for 'This Is It'. :disco:

I just listened to the Greatest Hits and I do enjoy it all. I just feel like I should be a loon but I've never become one. She's no LILI & SUSIE.
 
I think I was always vaguely aware of Kim through Kids in America and Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree, but I remember seeing her section on a Channel 4 show called Top Ten Pop Princesses and thinking Cambodia and You Came sounded amazing. She had a Best Of out at the time (this one) so I picked it up on my next trip to HMV and was just blown away by how fantastic it all was. :D
 
I KNEW of Kim from my sister who had Kids In America on 7 inch single, but it must have been around You Keep Me Hangin' On when I first heard of her properly, though it was You Came when I really got into her.

I realise that last statement makes me seem ANCIENT. :(

I wouldn't say I am a LOON, but she's my 7th most played act on Last FM. (She just overtook OUR SHIRL, VoR. :D))

I would argue they got the singles from Catch As Catch Can mostly wrong. Can You Hear It, Sparks and Sing It Out For Love are three of her absolute best.

Also, leaving off the remarkable Birthday Song and I've Found A Reason off Love Is was ridiculous, and Million Miles Away should have been single #2. Who Do You Think You Are is almost Girls Aloud worthy.

Saw her 5 times live so far... she's my second favourite female of all times... it's difficult to pick top 10 songs 'cos I love most of them ...but You came and It's here are awesome.
 
The Shep Pettibone 12" Mix of You Came and the 12" of Never Trust A Stranger are both IMMENSE.

I do hope either Universal (or more likely Cherry Pop) continue with the next three albums. I'm only familiar with the singles, and I know that Now & Forever is meant to be a bit dull but they could make it a more appealing package by including If I Can't Have You, In My Life and Shame.
 
Yes, the next three albums would be great and I can't see them stopping here- they'll certainly do "Love Is" at the VERY least...
 
This got delivered when I was on holiday and only just got a chance to listen to it - such a STUNNING album - not a duff track on it. Really nice sleeve notes from Kim too. Roll on the next two albums - they will definitely do "Love Is" so I can't see them missing out "Love Moves" even if it wasn't a hit.
 
So the closest thread I could find to mention it, but OUR KIM is doing a gig at a club here in June...

I was hoping that you were going to announce the release of the Love Moves and Love Is remasters there.. :(

I'd so go to a Kim gig though but that IS steep.
 
Oh of COURSE I'm going, don't be RIDICULOUS- I'd rather pay £65 to see Kim than MOST acts, but COME ON LOVE, have a WORD!

The same venue has Lulu for two nights later in the year. For SEVENTY QUID!
 
It's not really at all like it but for some reason a rewatch of this is bringing to mind Matia Bazar's 'Ti Sento'. It's probably the overwrought chorus but then again Kim did go quite EURO around this time :disco:
 
I still fail to understand how Never Trust A Stranger wasn’t her biggest hit FULL STOP. I mean, what a song.
