Kim Wilde Live at the BBC

I love that Kim (and the Bananas) have been getting their dues these last few years. Oh Kim’s being a talking head? Missed the start, I feel I need to record this for a red wine watch.

Mr Sheena just suggested we got the bag of left over coke out of its hiding place ESPECIALLY for this :D

(It was Another Step that made him take that rather ridiculous leap)

They’d better not be skipping The Second Time on TOTP for that mawkish shite from Tommy.

If I Can’t Have You always takes me straight back to a fun but dreadful dive called The Crow’s Nest which my first forays into the gay world happened and this was a staple at the time. I wish it was still open playing this.

It’s better than it has any right to be, considering how marvellous the original is…

I bought any 90s dance compilation going at the time and loved If I Can't Have You, but the ITV Chart Show gave it a good airing too. It wouldn't be until Christmas 1999 when I got it via the singles collection when I couldn't believe my ears at how good In My Life was. And what a CD crimbo I had that year: Kim, Madonna, Beastie Boys and Dusty best ofs, Medusa and Prince's Around the World In A Day. And they all sounded so amazing on my then-new CD player.

Oh but this Kim thing. Need to watch it soon.

Started. It's amazing how much this totp Kids In America look was all over the high street about 20 years ago. Hot shot (SHOT!)

Electricity injected into your veins, Never Trust A Stranger is one of her untouchable triumphs. Shame not to be treated to a contemporary performance of it. So utterly exhilarating, an outcry of vitriol and mortification that never fails to hit the spot. I did love the family affair dynamic to their live show that we see here too though.

Oh my. I thought we were onto It's Here. Four Letter Word. I've no nostalgia for it. I do like the cocktail longue singer blues of it all. And those amazing backing vocals.

Hangin' On really showcases Kim and Ricky's pop bravura instincts. I don't like that they're not keeping it in chronological order, especially as it's arguably a sonic stepping stone to Stranger.

Another Step has never done it for me. The credits could be running on any 80s movie here. The "I love every thing about it" moments open up a sprinkling of some magic pop dust, but it's a miss for me.

I do enjoy Crowded House, Split Enz (thanks to Vitamin C) and some Neil Finn solo (thanks Sinead and your antics), but this is a no.

BBC Player fast-forwards so erratically, I am gutted to have missed Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. Onto Steve Coogan.

Oh. Here. We. Go.

The Kim Confidential era always reminded me of Kim Bassinger in La Confidential (1997), so I wonder what were her actual reference points. 3 of her best singles come out of this era with a further 2 b-sides being some of her absolute best.

Love Is Holy absolutely soars.

The 90s totp disco throwbacks were plentiful weren't they? I guess the decade starts with Deee-Lite and Kylie, followed through by Dannii and Sister Sledge releasing remixes (So Pure, etc). But it continued well into the decade with Michelle Gayle, Louise, Juliet Roberts, etc. Anyway, Kim looks incredible. It should have heralded a new commercial renaissance.

Oh Kim <3

I won't comment on everything for those who haven't watched yet, but that moment really shows how lovely she is.

I wonder what they'll finish on.

Assumed this would just cover the major hits. AGOG at how in-depth it is!

Absolutely loved this. How wonderful that we got some Kim commentary. What a lovely, funny person ("too much yakking!") and the bit at the end...

She certainly sold the sea green curtained filth out of The Second Time and oh my at the extras in that View From a Bridge performance :D
