Kylie - Padam Padam (1st single, May 18th)

I’d assume a remix of some sort is on the way, ideally released on week nine. So long as it registers an increase in streams that week then it avoids ACR for another three weeks which would be ideal.
 
I don’t think Padam will get to #1.

The best parallel I can think of is Cher’s Believe, in terms of global pop queen comebacks at this stage of a career. The difference is that I don’t think Kylie’s track crosses over to a broader audience - it has mainstream pop dance appeal, but Cher covered every demo with Believe (and every market).

Kylie has done sensational by crossing over to the pop dance market which is such an ageist space usually. But I think the song has a ceiling.

I think she has a great chance of going Top 5 and I think it’ll hang around a while. I think she’s extended her career by another decade and it’ll be remembered as a key track in her catalogue. But I don’t think she’s going to #1. Not that that is a failure in 2023.
 
When does ACR ordinarily kick in in a song's lifetime?

I think what's holding it against it is strong support from Spotify. They aren't getting behind it in the way that Apple are for instance.

After 3 consecutive weeks of decline, not before week 10 of a song's chart life.

I'm just not sure how the 'decline' is measured.

She‘s literally #21 there today! She is been supported fine, given the odds are against her. Apple are much more pop leaning and have an older user base, so she’s always going to do better there.

She is quite low on the playlists that matter though!

There‘s so many rules but as far as I am aware (very possibly wrong):

-First nine weeks exempt
-From week ten onwards, if it has fallen in streaming for three weeks consecutively, it gets halved (to avoid it just needs any streaming increase - say 1% - to get the three weeks reset)
-Then needs an increase of 25% more in a future week to get reset from ACR

But then there is something about outperforming the market as a whole that may be in relation to the 25% increase or whatnot, so it’s rather confusing.

Yes but it’s only week four, and she’s only just hit the top ten. While we would all like her at #1 on Hot Hits UK, technically she shouldn’t be in that placing yet. Being top of Apples Hot Hits for example is great, but based off her streams she doesn‘t actually deserve that slot if we are being fair - so it’s swings and roundabouts.
 
I love that this deep into her career that Kylie is still having landmark career moments. Padam is without doubt one. I'd personally also include Infinite Disco but appreciate that may be more open to debate, and due to what the world was going through at that point - but that only enhances it for me. But Glastonbury was also undoubtedly another. All that thirty plus years into her career, after her 50th birthday. Astonishing.

It feels like they’ve played a blinder since 2017. The two albums, the GH, Glasto, Infinite Disco, all the #1 albums. They’ve totally dealt with this phase amazingly and cemented her as an all time legend, not just a big pop star.

And this is just the icing - getting a legit hit single against all odds this far down the line.
 
Everything in Infinite Disco was great. Since technically we've had performances of Supernova and Last Chance and the less essential Where Does The DJ Go and tolerable Monday Blues, I don't need to see them again

Yeah I’d hope that if she were on her way to #1 that wouldn’t apply to her as she’d presumably not have hit the decline stage just yet.

I like to think she'd do Kiss of Life, since Jessie did it a lot during her tour/festival appearances last year.

Last Chance is essential for me too (but doubt she will do it)
 
My straight friend has asked me if I want to come over and drink Kylie wine and listen to PADAM next weekend, the crossover is happening.
