Kylie - Tension II (Album XVIb)

Hello might be challenging for my favourite song (among many) on this. It genuinely sounds like she's terrorising an ex and sounds creepy as hell, helped in no small part by that eerie instrumental in it. It sounds so much more ominous than a bootie call song. The warning that "I'm on my way" is kind of shocking. As well as the instruction to "let me in".

I only paid attention to this song because of what you mentioned prior to this post, @Eddie .
It's alright, I guess.

It’s great to have a new smattering of Kylie tracks, and for her to be doing what she is doing is obvi amazing and beyond belief.

But I don’t really care this time. I guess it’s too soon? And the producing is great but the tunes aren’t huge? Again though, rather have her doing it than not, but it’s more an odd spin for me than caring like I did with Tension.

Emotive-Kylie is probably her best stuff of all time for me, but Hold on To Now felt a bit too By the numbers for me for that so I’m fine with that being flagged for a while whilst she mingles around with all these collabs.

So yeah…it’s fine for what it is, and it’s what I expected. But maybe a new album in 2026 with another *slightly* left field theme would be good.

To make it clear though, what a popstar, what a woman, what a back cat, what a great person to be a huge fan of because she delivers far more than most could dream :disco:

Yeah it's a tight, bop filled, hot production. It's not a career defining album, but nice to have another collection of products from our Queen. She's never not been anything short of prolific and she's on overdrive atm. Padam has really lit a fire in her. Considering there are several considerably lazier pop queens, she does show them up and AT HER AGE!

She seems to have a driving force in her, where she can never quite believe it's happening to her and if she stops it will go away, and yet an absolute pro every step of the way.
 
the fact that at this stage in her career she's working this much and will have the next studio album out likely within two years is just... respectable to the max. she's so hungry for it, it's fab to see.

if not every album or project is a classic - fine! there's another one around the corner. I probably won't go back to this that much in the end (and basically don't play Tension at all) but she still keeps us fed.
 
Its interesting she's in America/NYC on release day plugging it. It does make sense given its probably the US tickets she's got to FLOG in the non major cities, but has she got UK performances lined up. Lights Camera Action outside in the ONE SHOW courtyard is calling her name.. Or Edge Of Saturday Night on Graham Norton...
 
Oh let her have her American dream. They know who she is now and she couldn't be happier.
 
I think she just LOVES making music. It isn't work to her and now she travels everywhere with her mic, she has the freedom to do it whenever and wherever she wants. When someone is that passionate about something, it's infectious.

My vinyl copy still isn’t here, direct from the record company.

It’s really fucking frustrating that record companies can’t get people who actually pay for music things on release day. I only bought through them for the presale tour access anyway but it hardly endears me to move away from Amazon.

Townsend are notoriously shit. I was tempted by the LCA physical but knowing their extravagant shipping charges, thought better of it.

I likely will still purchase from them if they release something special mid-week.
 
I even toyed with not buying this physical as they are BOUND to do something else later down the line, but got sucked in.
 
I'm still hopeful of a digital release being thrown out start of next week.
 
This could be bullshit but she's supposedly on 26k sales with a comfortable lead over her nearest competitor.

Currently at #2 on Apple Music and #1 on iTunes.
 
At this point Tension was at 31k sales. Given that this has far fewer variants, had a shorter preorder time and no real hit single, surely this is arguably off to a better start.
 
The fact it was tied to a pre-order campaign for the tour pre-sale will really have boosted it though.
 
I suppose. I wonder how many people were aware that a purchase wasn't necessary (it was in very small print.).

Does anyone recall if she hit #1 on Apple Music in the UK with Tension?

She's also at #3 on the US iTunes chart and #55 on Apple Music.

#1 on iTunes Worldwide.
 
I was gonna do a track-by-track rate, but quite honestly WHAT'S THE POINT? She's so fucking consistent.

By all accounts it seems that it might be true and frankly I don't blame her.
