Is what was described not what you’d find in any community outside the major conurbations? It’s a tad unfair to pinpoint the North West because you have to trek up to Media city every now and then Peekaboo ? You can find cunts everywhere, some more vocal than others.
Also has anyone who isn't part of the elite trying to pass themselves off as one of “the people” used the liberal elite shite ?
 
I'm in a small back-of-beyond area in the North West and:
  • It's extremely rare to see a non-white face around here
  • The comments on any Facebook group for either the local rag or other groups would make your toenails curl from the bigotry, especially towards Muslims (should've seen it when they were thinking about building a mosque and how "they" would come flooding in)
  • Much extolled recent visitors to the rough-as-hell coastal town down the road (which leans heavily Brexit) include Roy Chubby Brown and 'Tommy Robinson'
  • A couple of years ago an LGBT party at said town (which was already getting a ton of "why do they have to wave willies in our faces, where's our straight party" etc) narrowly avoided getting macheted by a local nutter and all the comments of concern afterwards were about the mental health of the guy who was plotting to brutally murder people
Let's just say "we're behind the times a bit around here" on the -isms and -obias

I have no doubt that there are other rural hick towns scattered around the country though!

That's fair, I've found racists in other places but IN MY EXPERIENCE there is a pig-headed element of VOLUNTEERING these "opinions" to me at any possible opportunity (like, five minutes after you meet them in a pub for the first time) in these places, particularly since the referendum. I've never had that experience in any of the small towns of the Home Counties or the South West when I've been there. I'm sure I'm meeting a lot of Europhobes there but there's a modicum of KEEPING YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF - and no chip on the shoulder because I "live in London".

I do apologise if I BANDIED every Northern town into this GENERALISATION, you are right that there are places that aren't like that, but it's the combination between some of the BLEAKNESS I see in some of these towns and their VOTING TORY that makes me despair.
 
Also, I don't trek up to Media City :tongue: My boyfriend's family is scattered all over Merseyside and Lancashire and I've managed to meet the best of Southport, Formby, Preston, Blackpool (a HIGHLIGHT), Morecambe and other smaller towns. To say nothing of North Wales where I was once spat on and called a "paddy" (?) from two men in a white van (I'd like to chalk that one up to general cuntery).

I'm surprised that you haven't experienced any of those sort of people in the home counties, because what you've described is very much my experience of many people in equally left-behind areas of the South East - maybe they just volunteer their opinions more up North because even the racists are friendlier up that way.
 
Clive Lewis has entered the leadership race. I don´t know much about him but I don´t anticipate it will be anybody other than Kier or RBL(:zombie:) in the end.
 
Clive Lewis is fantastic.

I mean he'll probably be a terrible leader but he definitely has the charisma.
 
He's funny, but far too close to Corbyn and this language around 'unleashing the Labour membership' is the exact opposite of what we need right now.
 
My biggest fear is that Labour will learn absolutely nothing from this election.
 
I’m at the point where it all just feel pointless. For the next 5 years Labour essentially are no opposition ANYWAY, it barely even matters who they choose (I mean it does, but it’s a VERY LONG TIME until they will even get in front of a public ballot that will make a difference)
 
Clive Lewis may be the only Labour MP in 2019 I've known to need to be asked to speak respectfully to women.
 
First polling seems to suggest it's very likely to be Keir Starmer, which is probably a good thing.

I quite like Keir Starmer, but am concerned that the correct response to 'oh no, all the Brexity places abandoned us' might not be to usher in an uber-remainer.

That said, if Brexit is a disaster, maybe that'll be exactly what we need?
 
Almost the entire Labour Party are uber-remainers. I'm not sure that there's a plausible leadership candidate who could claim to have been in favour of Brexit all along. The next Labour leader can only be a success by accepting that Brexit is happening and changing the conversation to be about something else. If the next election is fought on Brexit then Labour will continue to be in big trouble.

They don't get as much of a say in the media because the media haven't worked out yet that coastal towns in the South East are just as poor and just as uneducated as many of the places they bandy as the 'poor' in the North. It doesn't fit into the North-South divide that people seem to want to perpetuate in both parts of the country.

I also find similar views in Surrey, from people that are certainly NOT 'left behind' but instead believe in protecting what they have.

Basically most of the country is full of cunts.

I mean if anything it would be delicious for the labour leader to have attained the only title that Boris desperately wants but still doesn’t have.

Menzies Campbell is the only one that springs to mind, but there's bound to be plenty way back before anyone cared (there was probably a point where you needed AT LEAST a knighthood to even be an MP, I'd imagine).

Menzies Campbell once refused to let my mother into the dancing. Seriously - she was at college at the time and Ming was the bouncer on the door of the student's union. There's no easy google resource for this I can see, but on picking a random one, Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman was knighted in 1895, leader in 1899 and prime minister in 1905.

I think we can take this is as a given already. I'm quite sure the Labour party will merge, fold or rebrand before ever getting back into power now. They're such damaged goods at this point.
