Lady Gaga - The Chromatica Era

Oh God, THANK GOD FOR BABYLON, even if it's nothing like the amazing thing it promised to be.

I think Babylon quite encapsulates one of my major frustrations with this record - it's the closer and it's kind of a HOME RUN, so WHY is it not allowed to BREATHE? It should be a solid minute longer, a victory lap.

Her contract with Interscope dictates that they choose the length of her albums, but even so she should've chopped Alice and Fun Tonight and given every other song an extra 30 seconds.

I don't know what to make of it. Is it basic as fuck? Will it grow? My headphones are out of battery, so I will give it a rest and come back to it again later.

As ever, Gags is nothing if not consistent in her ability to CONFUSE ME !

Saving this for later today when you accuse me of being basic for not getting the grandest album in history.

Sine From Above is actually pretty good, even if it is a little Radio 2. Elton John isn't as off-putting with his teeth in. Also Yes to the Outro!

1000 Doves is very pedestrian.

OK, second listen and Alice is giving me Deuce circa 1995 and Free Woman REMIX is slapping. Let's hope the rest continues to pop my pussy.

Fun Tonight is quite sad; I like it. It will make a lovely piano ballad.

I haven't heard Sine or Doves yet but I think I'll be spending more time in the back half of this album.

On second listen, Enigma is the best thing here (outside the singles). It glistens, it has a strong current of energy running through it, and it's one of the few sonically that explores new territory. It sounds ENTIRELY beamed in from a different project.

Replay starts out a little tame but by the time the middle 8 comes around and then flows BEAUTIFULLY back into the final chorus it's all a bit :disco:

What HAVE they done to Free Woman :( I mean this happy rave hi-nrg version has its MOMENTS but the deep house production really SLAPPED before.

I really like Sour Candy, and bizarrely Enigma, which is SOOOOO old-fashioned, but I STAN!

I liked the demo, but I like what they've done to it. I'm more curious about what happened to the AMAZING Babylon instrumental.

In the second act, after a brief INTERMISSION, and the album is really giving me The Fame vibes. The production is zippier, there's more vocal manipulation and melodies are very poppy. It feels a lot less encumbered than Artpop.

OK girls, I am cautiously VALIDATING this album. I will confirm the degree of baldness that has occurred within the next few hours. :disco:

Also, give us a REMIX ALBUM please Gags. As Ms Jark keeps saying, we need to let these songs BREATHE.

I am just STUCK on Babylon. Feeling oddly moved. The gospel vocals. The drag lyrics. That piano + sax line.

Despite the boppiness, she sounds very flat and sad throughout the album. The deadpan Gaga vocals are in full effect. It's like someone gave Spiceworld a Tramadol. And I cautiously stan.

Who has Sine from Above? It is apparently the highlight and I don't HAVE IT!
