Lady Gaga - The Chromatica Era (1 Viewer)

Also is it just me or has she FINALLY dropped all the silly voices on this one?

I just dipped back into 'Perfect Illusion' to see if I was remembering it too harshly, and the ghastly "IT WASN'T LAAAAAARV!" bit just forced me to switch it back off again immediately.

How are you always SO wrong?

It goes verse - chorus - middle 8 - end, it's by default one of the most weirdly structured songs here as it skips the second verse.

‘hey, Jark! News flash! Not all songs have to follow the same structure!!’

Excuse moi? Did you just mistake me for the devil itself?

Oh I’m sorry dear, it’s just that I’m not familiar with your user name and jumped to conclusions... Were you already here 4 years ago and what was your name back then?

Jark missed the bridge and numerous post choruses in that post anyway.

Yes I did notice that and actually started correcting him but the thing about pop music and verse/bridge/chorus/middle-8/post-chorus/pre-chorus sections is sometimes they're hugely debatable in regards to what is a chorus and what is a bridge etc... so I didn't want to get into the semantics.

what! Perfect Illusion is grandiose pop rock. the belting, the key-change, the way that there’s no pitch correction on her vocals! arguably her most timeless lead after Bad Romance.
frankly it took around 20 plays for it to really click with me and when it did... :coffin:

Chromatica is outselling the rest of the UK Top 20 combined in the midweeks! 40k as of today.

Rain On Me debuts at #1 on the US Hot 100!

I'm NOT SORRY

10 Alice
10 Stupid Love
10 Rain On Me
10 Free Woman
10 Fun Tonight
10 911
09 Plastic Doll
10 Sour Candy
08 Enigma
09 Replay
09 Sine From Above
08 1000 Doves
09 Babylon

Re: Sine gets a 9. It would have got a 10 because it's a good pop song, but it lost a point for each of Elton John and the DnB. It then gained a point for the DnB.

Score: 9.2

I legit declare it her BEST EVER ALBUM!

I approve of this message.

I've tried, but aside from the Chromatica III suite (Sine From Above, 1000 Doves, Babylon) I think I prefer ARTPOP :(

I mean it's still a 7 but it's all so DISPOSABLE! Maybe I just need to have another wine

I do like grotty hysteria-generator ‘Mary Jane Holland’ (and perhaps ‘Applause’) more than anything on this album with the exception of ‘Free Woman’ but that’s because my wiring’s gone funny and I’m NOT apologising :disco:

I realise I may well be ostracising myself by saying it, but I really don't care if I never hear any of ARTPOP EVER AGAIN :)

“Chromatica“ has already shifted over 41,000 units in the UK based off 3 days (& without counting sunday’s streams). It’s expected to sell ~70,000 units in its debut week marking the biggest first week sales for a female artist in the UK since Taylor Swift’s “Reputation“.

:disco:

Actually I forgot Applause was even on it. I do genuinely enjoy that one a lot. I'd still forgo it if it saved me from the CACAPHONOUS DIN of the rest of it, though.

I reckon 60k is more like it. But even that would still place it as the biggest opener of 2020 by some distance, I believe.

ARTPOP is so interesting to me. She talked a big talk about learning to be 'great' without all the wigs and the lashes the costume, but the album was then this huge statement of excess, and not just in the packaging.

I haven’t said this yet but I actually agree entirely. I’ve been holding out for a full review because I haven’t played it too many times but then that’s kind of the point- unlike Artpop which I couldn’t STOP playing. It’s GOOD, but it hasn’t fully hooked me yet.

Well, bar Alice, which is obviously one of the best things she’s ever done.

There's loads I love on ARTPOP. Applause, Fashion!, Donatella, Artpop, Manicure... but there's some subpar stuff too, whereas this feels consistent throughout.

ARTPOP is a bloody brilliant pop album. Bop after bop after bop. It’s a pity so many people fell for the “oh it flopped therefore it must not be very good” groupthink drivel.

I don't hate it because it flopped. I don't care how well it did or didn't do. It's just far too noisy and discordant to these ears.

09 Alice
09 Stupid Love
10 Rain On Me
08 Free Woman
07 Fun Tonight
07 911
08 Plastic Doll
08 Sour Candy
10 Enigma
10 Replay
09 Sine From Above
08 1000 Doves
11 Babylon

Her best album overall for me. She really did eat it all up. Drop that Haus mix of Babylon as a single Gags :disco:

09 Alice - GAY TRASH :disco:
07 Stupid Love - ultimately just a bit too basic of a chorus, even if it is fun on the way.
08 Rain On Me
08 Free Woman
09 Fun Tonight
08 9/11
09 Plastic Doll
05 Sour Candy - absurdly reductive. why am I supposed to ever want to listen to this over Swish Swish?
10 Enigma - the SOUND OF A PRIDE PARADE :disco:
09 Replay - the sound of coming around from passing out on G at Studio 54
11 Sine From Above - outrageous!
09 1000 Doves - 2002 trance melodic glory
10 Babylon - another one that sounds like having a sunstroke at a Pride parade. legitimately incredible. love that it pretty much wholesale swipes several elements from CeCe Peniston - Finally :disco:

How exactly is this a 7 with those scores?:D

while some tops and verses have been counting Gaga out since ARTPOP and even calling her "streaming poison," "has-been," etc. this happened:

Cheek to Cheek #1
Joanne #1
Million Reasons #4
A Super Bowl PER. FOR. MANCE.
Shallow #1
ASIB #1
An Oscar
Six Grammys
Stupid Love #5
Rain On Me #1
Chromatica #1 - 3rd biggest STREAMING debut for a female artist ever (after Ari and T-Swift) AND her biggest selling debut in the U.S. after BORN THIS WAY (which was sold for 99 cents... so C, being sold at full price, and adjusted for inflation, might be her biggest selling debut in the U.S. of ALL TIME)

the way power bottoms won.

stan Lady Gaga for clear skin and a bright future.

I think the Superbowl performance is the best thing she's ever done :disco:

Also enjoying the DESPERATION in the summary of Chromatica, peach it @joanne ! :disco::disco:
