Lana Del Rey - Chemtrails Over The Country Club

Apparently it leaked in HQ - why wait two weeks for the slightly more LQ Spotify version especially when she's been such a TIT to us recently :D

because I can't stand my streams not counting to last.fm OK that's why

A cursory read of Lana's fan board seems to make out White Dress, Yosemite, Tulsa, Wild at Heart and Dark but Just a Game as the early highlights. Apparently "Breaking Up Slowly" and "For Free" are collabs as opposed to backing vocalist affairs as it was anticipated

I could only find White Dress! listening now

I very much understand her comments about the rough vocal now

it's kinda shit. feels like a rough sketch of a song with a very rough vocal that should never have been heard

I've downloaded and took the edible... first listen extravaganza coming shortly :eyes:

"White Dress"

I played it five times before letting it finish :D

The way drifts from Tori Amos piano ballad, to jazz, to 90s alt-rock to fragile piano ballad in five minutes is devastating. I like the raw vox, feels more intimate.

When I was a waitress
Wearing a tight dress
Look how I do it
Look how I've got this.

"Tulsa Jesus Freak"

OMG this is FABULOUS and WITCHY :D :o :disco:

The autotune! This sounds like what Madonna's Music album would sound like in 2021. It's nothing I expected from her but very welcome.

"Yosemite" - I am CONVULSING that chorus/verse/instrumental is stun gorge

The way I hated "Dance Till We Die" for the first minute and was bopping and crying the rest of it. :o

Her voice is almost unrecognizable in that middle eight. She TRANSFORMS

My copy didn’t come with LMLYLAW and I didn’t bother finding it to add, so I AGREE.

I want my first wedding dance to be to "Yosemite" :o

Honey, you make me feel like I'm invincible
Just like I wanted
No more candle in the wind

It's not like I'm invisible
Like I was before
No more burning at both ends...

*flamenco dances*

Preliminary rate:

10 White Dress
09 Chemtrails Over the Country Club
10 Tulsa Jesus Freak
05 Let Me Love You Like a Woman
09 Wild at Heart
08 Dark but Just a Game
08 Not All Who Wander Are Lost
10 Yosemite
06 Breaking Up Slowly
09 Dance Till We Die
07 For Free

With ROOM TO GROW

This album is so interesting to me, on some levels it feels like her most adventurous album to date, and other levels it's a natural progression of NFR (but make it country?). I have a feeling "Dark But Just a Game" and "Dance Till We Die" are going to be most reflective of the next album.

the chorus of Dark But Just a Game is divine. very late 90s somehow.

Tulsa Jesus Freak though was boring and messy.

Wild at Heart is the most UTTERLY SHAMELESS rip off of How to Disappear? :D

the music - not the melody, sadly.

I like it plenty but impossible to look past the ridiculous self plagiarism at work here! the chorus is 100% the same!

Yosemite is nice. some amazing, raw vocal moments on these tracks. I think I kinda see what she's going for with this album. the vibe is so loose, the songwriting quite stream of consciousness sometimes. it's much less pristinely perfect than NFR! I just don't know if that's what I want from Lana. it will take time to adjust...

Dance Till We Die must be one of the warmest songs of her career? It's a gorgeous delight.

The middle 8 is everything! her vocal on this one... yes :disco: BEST SO FAR.

“White Dress” is that bitch for me atm. Possibly already all time top ten worthy. It’s the kind of song that makes you contemplate everything and her vocal just exudes... experience and sadness. Everything about this album is so mature, and lived in. Not try hard or reductive in the slightest which I was worried about after LMLYLAW.

Re: "Wild at Heart". I think the sample/plagiarism is intentional. It's too obvious to not be- and they both reference "Joe"! It does have a tinge of "Hope..." as well in the chorus...

I prefer the non-HTD bits anyway. It's like a matured "Tears on My Pillow" and I love "Tears on My Pillow" :o :shy:

"Dance Till We Die" is like the best chorus the Beatles never wrote

So we made a pact in the middle of the night
(WE KEEP IT MOVIN BABY :weed:)
To the Louisiana two-step
High and bright
(WE KEEP IT DANCIN BABY :weed: )

We won't say when, we won't ask WHYYYYYYYYY
We won't stop dancing till we die...
I'll keep walking on the sunny siiiiiide...
And we won't stop dancing till we die...
