Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell (sync listen Sunday 8pm)

:D oh Suedette. I live for the drama of that IMAGERY. "is that sweat on his face, or has Cinnamon Girl set him off again?" :disco:
Also: I live in the forest so you can imagine the DRAMA of my BACKGROUND AND SURROUNDINGS darling :disco:

WE'LL have a PAAAAAAARRRRTTTYYYYYYYY
We'll dance till DAWN!

Anyone feel like "Dance Till We Die" will be the unofficial sequel of "California"?

California is the (joint) greatest song of this bitch's entire CAREER, let's be real for a hot sec.

you hate the HEAT
you got the BLUES
changing like the weather, oh that's so like you...

that bit takes me back to Black Beauty somehow. but probably the reason I love California SO much is the double punch of the two (!) choruses, and the way the second one ("we'll do whatever you want, travel wherever how far") becomes gradually more stratospheric and borderline hysterical. incredible to hear that side of her vocal, really injecting the song with an extreme sense of urgency that's very un-Lana Del Rey :D ugh. amazing.

I think California is my 11. The sentiment of kind of waiting around for someone you love is just TOO SAD (if thats not what its about, don't correct me :D).

And not to mention the choruses!!!

The "Black Beauty" parallel is one I haven't thought of before, I hear it in that lyric! And yes, "California" is so great because she sounds so animated on it. Dripping with drama. I remember Ms. ameraal hated it in particular? How could she?

I think it's about a friend with a depression who she's not really sure how to reach out to. Not correcting you, just offering my own take. I'm sure Iguana will be round at any time to stomp all over it though. :)

'The Next Best American Record' was my initial favourite out of the gate. I felt it perfectly encapsulated the 'Americana' sensibility of the album. I rinsed the hell out of it but it hasn't really taken off any of its sheen to be honest.

Oh that's even sadder, in it own way. And to clarify, is the friend real or in her head?

"The Next Best American Record" is fantastic - took some getting used to because I loved the demo with different lyrics.

Ugh this album honestly. It might become my favourite of hers in the long term but let's see.

It's not easy to type whilst one is shaking and crying (violently) in the corner..

my baby used to dance underneath my architecture
he was seventies in spirit, nineties in his frame of mind

what does it mean? :D

The Next Best American Record is such a transcendent song. from the soft folksy slow burn of the verses to the CRASHING WAVES of the chorus, dropping out into that quiet storm middle 8 and you're just waiting for it cos you know it's ALL ABOUT TO HIT THE FAN. *sound of smashing glass* :disco: :disco: :disco:

and those swells in the final chorus and outro that sound like tripping on acid at the beach! ugh it's everything!!! REALLY underrated song.
