MORNING MOOPY.

In the latest HOT DEATH AFTERMATH CHAT, my brother seems to have lost my Mum's will, which he's IMPLYING I have to have done but I absolutely cannot have done, which means that we will have to go through a load of legal hoopla and nonsense (and no doubt expense) in order to sort my Mum's estate, which we're told can "easily take a few years to resolve".

SO THAT'S NICE.

Jesus. That's a pile of shit. Is he usually a bit useless?

Not organisationally, to be fair. Fuck knows what he's done, but there's that and her death certificates disappeared (though the latter you can easily get more copies of). There's a bundle of documents we've been passing between us as we do various bits of admin, but he absolutely remembers going through the will during his last stint of having them and I haven't opened said bundle at all since it's come back to me until now and I've never even seen a hard copy of the death certificates, so I can't see it's vanished my end.

To be fair, I told my Mum at the time of the will she should leave the original with the solicitor and just keep a copy, but she refused. Apparently they can't certify the copy as being true, as they don't have the original to compare it against...even though they obviously did both at the time.

WHY IS SHIT LIKE THIS SO FUCKING COMPLEX?!

That is proper shit but surely its not the sort of thing that you casually leave lying around, and hopefully it'll turn up?!

(Says the person who hasn't had a birth certificate for 18 years and has had to fly back to the UK without a passport in the past)

Yeah, I've decided to hold off for a bit before doing anything else but he says he's turned his house over and can't find it. Fuck knows- like you, I can't understand how you'd ever manage to lose something that important in the first place.

It really is a typically British bureaucracy pile of nonsense that the copy on record with the solicitors seemingly CAN'T COUNT, though!

In Scots law you can use a copy under certain circumstances at least.

But also in Scots law you can relatively easily overturn a will entirely if people aren't happy with what they're meant to inherit. Which is PROBLEMATIC

Apparently not for probate in England, you can't.

Probate itself being ANOTHER PILE OF NONSENSE NO ONE REALLY NEEDS.
