Let's talk about HUMAN RESOURCES departments

So my workplace just casually decided to reduce my salary by about $10,000 and claim that it's cuz I was being "overpaid" this whole time. And after days of (unanswered) emails and phone calls they finally admitted that it was an "oversight". Can't stand Chicago Public Schools. Biggest cunts I've ever worked for.

Does ANYONE have a nice HR department? Anyone had a GOOD experience?

My general experience has been negative. Trying to manage people who go AWOL, and when they are at work they’re not working or even pretending to work.

Working in the Public Sector everything has to be done by the book, so getting HR advice on how to deal with such individuals is terrible. I usually ended up being assigned a case worker who goes AWOL themselves and doesn’t seem to think it’s much of an issue that someone is clearly taking the piss.

Currently in a seconded position until mid-next year where I don’t manage anyone, and my direct manager doesn’t really care. I do hope it gets extended.

I remember once we were In a meeting with the NY office and we were telling them we were having a leaving do that night and they didn’t understand, the girl had handed her notice in a month ago and they were like, she’s STILL THERE?

I kind of admire the frozen apathy, the dead eyes, the lack of soul, the ability to announce anything with a complete lack of sentiment. Like robots.
Anw I was watching the TikTok of an HR employee the other day and she shared a video titled "Do you want to know what HR is from someone who studied and works in HR?" which lured me in. Her definition was "Do you remember in the schoolbooks when we learned that the ancients believed that there was a particular type of deity (Charon) sailing the dead people to Hades? That's us. That's what we do." Coincidentally ages ago when I was working for another company, Charon was our nickname for the HR officer that we were seeing most in our premises.

We used to have a Personnel department. Interestingly, all the work organised staff parties seemed to stop when they rebranded themselves to HR. Don't need to raise the morale and camaraderie of resources, I suppose, that's more of a people thing

There is a massive difference between HR and Corporate HR, which I think is being missed here.
