Light Up (New Song from the Netflix Documentary)

It's a Chris Martin co-write so I'm not totally surprised but given the news we've received today, I'll say it's a fitting song for the doc.

Still reeling about that btw.

Yeah - it sounds ridiculous but i’m glad I didn’t know at the time, I’d have been stressing for her. She’s made of strong stuff.
 
I like it. It sounds very much like an extra track on the deluxe edition of an album, but it's pleasant enough.
 
I kinda HATE her vocal production on this. I could probably find something to enjoy about the song but whatever that is on her voice is truly baffling.

I thought that too. How can the people involved be happy with this?
 
Had a listen and yes the vocals sound like they’re on cheap vinyl or a glitchy stream, unfortunately. I’m assuming she did her own vocal production again? She’s done all of it post COVID I think and usually not for the better.
 
This is pretty lovely actually (but would agree on the foggy vocal production.)
 
The song is fine for a documentary tie in. Also agree regarding the choices taken with the vocal production. Her voice is so much stronger than a lot of her recent releases show.
 
I watched the documentary and unless I missed something this wasn’t played or referred to at any point, even over the credits 🥴
 
It might not be the best time to air this CONTROVERSIAL take, but does anyone else think that Kylie has quality control issues? Especially over the past 12 years or so, it seems like new music is pumped out so much, even if a good deal of it is rather MEDIOCRE. We could easily have done without this new song. It's feeble and the vocal production is shocking. It's also ended up not feeling like a massive event anymore when there's new Kylie music. I guess fans are either of the "give us everything all the time" persuasion or the "only give us your very best music every 3 years" persuasion. I'm very much the latter.

I mean yes, kind of - but for a programme like this, I just wish it was better rather than thinking it's too much.

I had totally switched off around Tension II though. We really did hit overload around that time for me.
 
I mean I really REALLY like the Disco album, I thought that was cracking (except Where Does The DJ Go - which was a crock of shite). But her vocals are definitely become more and more software.

I don't know why they did Tension II rather than just Tension Deluxe - maybe just to rack up another No.1? Tension in the first place didn't leave much of a mark although I love the title track. Once again I find a really really big Kylie moment - Padam Padam (like CGYOOMH and Spinning Around before it) left me cold. But given what she has been through I am happy she got to have that moment of being centre stage again.
 
Tension is a great album and I'm someone who albeit in a small minority, loves a lot of Tension II. Where I start to balk however is with her collaborations - almost all of them have not been up to par - for someone who rarely had other artists featured on her work - the last five years have been overkill in that respect.

There is nothing wrong with this song - her vocal is just shockingky produced and I don't know if that's do do with her self recording or something Biff seems to be doing more and more - whichever one it is I wish they would stop.
 
I'm an absolute Kylie apologist, and I just don't spend a lot of time thinking about the fluff. There's often a little treat hidden among the rough and I focus on that.

I'm grateful our prolific queen, is still alive and well and churning out music.
 
Yes Kylie has always been prolific with releasing music. What is surprising is she is planning to tour AGAIN next year. Or maybe not. I guess 40 years in the business is worth celebrating.o_O O_o o.O O.o
 
I think putting random bits out often is preferable to disappearing between albums, often for years. even if they're shit. it's strategic - acts who stream well don't tend to disappear for ages.
 
I was only listening to Tension the other day, and thinking that Story really should have been a single!

That’s the boat I’m in as well. I’m just happy to see her continuing to produce and she seems happy doing it.
 
She's certainly slapped in the face of all those people who said she had no talent, in the early days!
