Of course, believing victims is important. Way too many powerful people have avoided accountability for their shitty actions simply by telling their victims that they won't be believed. my current thoughts on this situation, if a serious moment may be permitted...

I don't know about her character. as with any mega rich, super famous person it's possible that she's awful and really good at hiding it.

but when it comes to actual criminal accusations...

if you're a dancer and you go with Lizzo to a sex club in Amsterdam, is it a surprise or particularly outrageous if she encourages sexual behaviour? this is... what people do in the red light district. presumably there was a friend/friendly dynamic between Lizzo and the dancers. I personally would be super uncomfortable in that situation, but I also would make sure I was not in a sex club with my employer in the first place. the suit does not seem to claim they were forced to be there or would be fired if they didn't go.

I'm sure their experience with Lizzo was unhealthy and maybe very unpleasant (perhaps for her too)... I also think assumptions that she is definitely guilty of sexual harassment, the most serious charge here, feel without merit right now.

also she does have a right to make her beige notes app statement. there'll be tons we don't know, and I hope everything that needs to come to light comes out in court that so an informed verdict can be reached on whether she's really guilty of everything she's being accused of. if she is that evidence will come out.

but I'm not sure being sexually suggestive or encouraging a dancer/friend to touch a sex performer in a sex club constitutes sexual harassment, and I think accepting that claim blindly without any kind of critical thought is actually very damaging. not everything is harassment, and sometimes an inappropriate comment is just that.

"believe victims!" is as flawed an idea as innocent until proven guilty. the reality is often somewhere in a grey area.
