Lorde - “What Was That” + ‘Virgin’

new at 36 on the hot one honey

her first top 40 since Green Light (which surprisingly to me peaked at #19)

I would have thought it could debut higher with the first few days of streaming but I guess it had no radio presence.

In other news RIBS debuts at #99. I assume because of TikTok?

Oh dear

Not based on this post as such, but I think, based on some of the stuff he was sharing about God and angels etc around the release of Hopecore, that he might not be very well. I hope the little Melodramsters don't go in too hard.

The anticipation for this compared to Solar Power is quite something. It can't all be down to Girl, So Confusing. I assume there's also some generational nostalgia for Pure Heroine starting to kick in.

I like this. I also really like man of the year now. all the songs edge you a bit.

I approached this with a fair bit of trepidation after the first two releases, but the first listen was quite promising.

Pure Heroine remains unchallenged, but Favourite Daughter, David, If She Could See Me Now and Hammer all stood out.

What Was That feels like a bit of a misfire as a first single in retrospect.

What Was That is the obvious single, I don't hear a lot of them here (Shapeshifter might do well) but the album is strong front to back. I'm really enjoying it. sounds great in this heat. Broken Glass, David, GRWM and Favourite Daughter all stood out.

This has reminded me of the time someone made a PowerPoint alleging that Melodrama was about her shagging Jack Antonoff behind Lena Dunham's back when she was living at their house during the making of that album. Love the one-woman Fleetwood Mac mess/energy she brings to the recording studio if true :disco:

considering Hammer only got 6m in its first full week (and Solar Power was and remains a huge streaming bomb) those seem like strong numbers

I've only listened to the album once so far but enjoyed it a lot.

There's not much in the way of decent tunes on it, but it's oddly enjoyable!

Definitely not my cup of tea, but I'm totally ok not 'getting' it, I'll stan either way. It's clearly a well thought out product.

Is there any bangers I should check out, or any Perfect Places type tracks? Obvi wish her to do well because it’s nice for someone to be able to from home, but it’s not usually my thing,
