Writer wasn't a fave of mine at first but god it's irresistible. cheeky, witty, emotional, beautiful - love the call the cops line and her overwrought delivery of it.

it feels a bit like her Kate Bush homage moment?

How does this album end so strong

On top of just being a really fucking great song, I like how the song feels like it plays with the archetype a lot of critics have projected upon women who write about their personal relationships (Stevie, Alanis, Taylor et al)

I didn't realise Writer as ever a favourite. It's always washed over me. Hearing the lyrics for the first time tonight and yes some of them are really quite powerful and emotive.

Supercut is absolutely :disco:
 
Supercut is my HARD favourite from this record and I'm still pissed it wasn't a single. that gentle build, the twinkly synths, the buzzy bassline that comes and goes, it's all absolutely dazzling. gorgeously soft, always threatening to explode but controlled enough that it never does.

I do sometimes wish there was an edit with a final glorious repetition of the chorus. but it's just a reason to PLAY IT ON LOOP.

I wish I went to the tour just for this song - I hope it will reappear on future setlists.

Gorgeous closer. another one I haven't shown enough love to over the years. I think I was annoyed they made it second single but it really is a lovely way to end the album - a real note of hope and effervescence after all the emotional weight of the midsection.

9.18/10 - fully deserved. She is TOO fucking talented, it makes me sick. but also - more please, and now!

I think Khalid (and Post Malone honestly) are a bit underrated
 
I don't think I would choose to listen to this over the original but NOT BAD

the structure is better too though.

SZA's verse is the absolute tits, I love it. but Post's verse (the last of the four) is the best. they all BROUGHT IT and that's why it totally works and doesn't feel like a panic job.

this was amazing, so glad we did it! and her discog is such a short blast that I demand an epically overlong third record.

Thank you all for joining! I love Lorde, I love Melodrama, and I definitely feel I have more of an appreciation for Pure Heroine than I did before (especially A World Alone :disco:)
 
Team - what a perfect single to follow up Royals with! it radiates summer, fresh air and good vibes. the production throughout Pure Heroine is just top notch and has endured so well.

fun fact - it's mostly Joel Little, who also produced much of Love + Fear and the questionable songs on Taylor's Lover. how the mighty fall!

400 Lux - my favourite Lorde song. something about the theme of driving around familiar spots in the home town you have a love/hate relationship with, just killing time, really gets me. even though I don't drive and just straight-up hate my home town.

this SPOKEN WORD verse decimates my entire fucking existence to be quite honest with you.

amazing how subtly she evokes little details like the changing of seasons/the uneventful passing of time with the long sleeves line.

Ribs - so much propulsive energy powering this song! her low vocal is absolutely divine and floats over the whole thing like velvet. the chopped and spliced backing vox becoming an instrument in their own right - so magical.

I see this is her #1 on Spotify despite never being a single - it really should have owned the world.

I think despite being a touch less consistent overall, the highs on the debut are actually higher than Melodrama. the whole sonic soundscape is so gorgeous.
