mabel - don't call me up

Has anyone tried the album? I have played it a few times today and it is EVERYTHING you would want from a Mabel album. Fantastic.
 
Oh no, she just had a much different, more low key, cooler vibe. See Thinking Of You in the first post of this thread!
 
I haven't played the album yet but Bad Behaviour has grown on me in a big way.

Noticed in HMV that they were also selling signed copies. Are there any unsigned ones? Poor girl must have been tied to a table, marker in hand for days.
 
I like the album on first listen. She's obviously settled on a sound that is stuck with for the most part, but it is nice and summery.

I do hope they don't do a Dua and go for FML as the next single, it is a bit basic and whiny. Put Your Name On It, Selfish Love and We Don't Say all very good, Trouble too. It's a shame one of the interludes couldn't have been filled out a bit, they make a nice change of pace and Not Sayin' seems album worthy of more than being tucked at the end after the old singles.
 
The album is a really enjoyable, easy listen, certainly more consistent than Dua's. I can't believe this is only a bonus song, it should've been the single over Mad Love

Not Sayin' is definitely one of the better tracks and done so wrong getting backed on there like that.

There's a slightly more chilled feel than some of the other uptempos and she sounds really good on it.

Yes, she comes across really well. This bit about there being a bit of a personality disconnect is right on the money:

Mabel is really good company, which is a lovely surprise because it’s hard to get a sense of her personality from her socials and live shows. She appears slick and shiny, so you can’t tell that she’s funny, smart and thoughtful. At one point she mentions writing a track about lazy lovers. “I’ve been shocked at how many guys won’t lift a motherfucking finger and expect you to do all the fucking work. I’m here doing backflips and the fucking splits,” she splutters.

“What are you doing bro? Let’s get moving!” Such casual candour just doesn’t match up to Mabel’s much more polished pop star persona and she agrees there’s a disparity somewhere. “There is so much more to me, I think I’ve just been so focused on the music. I do want people to know me better,” she adds.

They ought to get her on Graham Norton or something when he's back on TV. She needs to be given a chance to shine.

i love that it's so elaborate and i really think she is a sweetheart but i'm not completely convinced by the singing or the presence.
the song is really still quite great.

I agree there's something missing, but it gave my heart such joy to see a big pop production number in a sea of boring white men with guitars.

there is truly such a lack of joy these days.
 
My main issue with Mabel is that this song is an utter 10/10 but nothing else she's released yet has even come close.
 
She has quite a number of really good songs - this, Bad Behaviour, Ring Ring with Jax Jones, Fine Line (probably her best), Not Sayin', God Is A Dancer, Mad Love...

My issue with her is more that her image is not where it needs to be to breakout properly and she seems to lack charisma performing.
 
my issue is that, as someone pointed out somewhere else, she looks like she's playing dress-up.
