Isn't this the issue though?

Madonna in her heyday was SETTING trends, not just chasing after whatever she thought was already popular / trying to bandwagon off the popularity of others in the hopes of going viral with the YOOF

There’s a whole essay I can write about this romantic reappraisal of how Madonna was perceived at the time (we were all there and she was not always called a trend setter in fact she got just as much shit as she does now but just in a different way) and how she is now and how the landscape has changed and how she’s just navigating her way but I can’t so I won’t but if I was your girl.

No other artist gets slagged off for following trends, except Madonna.

I don't know if that's true. and maybe if Madonna feels that heat more than most it's because she was so ahead of the curve for a long time that for her to be behind it was jarring.

Either way, at this point she hasn’t been setting trends arguably since Music. Personally I’m far beyond wanting or expecting that from her. Some actually listenable music would be just lovely.

I’d be interested to see the trajectory of those numbers. It’s not currently in her top ten streamers, and it was very much riding on Nicki Minaj’s immense popularity at the time.
It's not in her top 20. From a quick look at kworb, I think it's in the mid 20s yesterday, with 24k daily.

I posted Abba's current totals compared to three years ago in @funky's Spotify stats thread yesterday. A clear majority of Abba's top 20 have over 50% of their streams total come in the last three years. Those few that haven't are all close, and many increasing by considerably more than 50%.

Bitch I'm Madonna has 25% of its total in that same period. I don't know if that's true across her catalogue, or of other artists generally, or if the Abba increase is more typical.

I have never been so horrified by a MADONNA song as this one. I have also never heard of whatever genre it is she was inventing/mainstreaming with it though. PC gone Mad(ge).

Revolver is a disgusting piece of shit.

I think Revolver was that moment when I thought “yeah fuck this” after years of defending her decline.

Now I don’t expect much and every now and again I’m pleasantly surprised (Medellin).

I’ll be quietly optimistic about this new album but that’s about it.

It's abysmal and cringe, but it's only bad because it was a single. If it was just an obscure filler track then it would be a fun novelty. What was she thinking? Did she choose it to be a single?

by this logic BDAY SONG is a fun novelty

For me Revolver is fun, more acceptable as it was just a track on the Celebration (aka GH no. 94) album. Marjoram is fun on a night out and palatable because she's Madonna, but GAYLUV is terrible
