Madonna - Confessions II OUT NOW (6 Viewers)

July feels ages away. I assume we'll get a 3rd single (but 1st lead) accompanied by a video, TV performances and what not.
 
I certainly wouldn't count on TV perfs - she's not going to be gracing Good Morning America or LORRAIN

maybe something on Jimmy Fallon? I can imagine her not bothering at all
 
I don't see her wheeling herself out on TV like she did for Rebel Heart, but I can see awards/one or two high profile TV shows/events a possibility..

I’ve been waiting for this to come up so that I wasn’t the first person to mention it.

He was cast on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning. There’s a super injunction in place that covers his casting so as to protect his family from harrassement.

I know due to my work which is why I’ve been reluctant to mention it on here - we’ve all been sworn to secrecy but seeing as this thread is hidden I should be okay.

six songs played at a fan event (presumably the first six on the album/the same six from the film) -

1. I Feel So Free
2. Danceteria
3. Good For The Soul
4. Bring Your Love
5. Love Sensation
6. Fragile

Danceteria is "spoken word, funny, her stories from clubbing" in NY. Good For The Soul is "four to the floor with a hint of Detroit techno". Love Sensation is the banging clip we heard the other week. Fragile "is slower, icy synths and strings, a hint of Frozen" and may be about Christopher.

Lucy O’Brien today attended a Madonna playback event in London where she heard 6 tracks from Confessions II, four of which had not yet been released — the remaining two being in all likelihood I Feel So Free and Bring Your Love, the only tracks from the album already available on streaming platforms at the time of the session. Stuart Price was present and confirmed the tracks were crafted like a DJ mix — blending continuously into each other.

Overall Sound & Format
The album is a continuous mix — not separate standalone tracks. The overall sound is house with nu-disco influences, Detroit techno touches, and what O’Brien calls “good old dance pop.” It has elements of 80s house rooted in personal memory rather than pure nostalgia — O’Brien described it as “plugged into memories, not just NY but Menjo’s as a teenager in Detroit.” Despite the retro touchstones, the lyrics are so original it doesn’t feel like a throwback. It’s personal, but still reaches outward — danceable and uptempo. O’Brien’s overall framing: think of it like Confessions with further depth and insight. Not many romantic songs in the first batch; those may appear later.

Track-by-Track Details
Danceteria — A ln incredible spoken word track about Madonna’s stories from her early clubland years in New York. O’Brien compared it to the rap section of “Vogue” but grittier, and rather than referencing Hollywood icons, it namechecks her NY friends. It received a massive round of applause when heard at the session and is described as funny. When asked if there are any “Hung Up”-level moments on the album, O’Brien noted that Madonna is at a completely different and far more mature stage of her career — and that Danceteria is the closest equivalent: not a repeat of what came before, but a track that carries the same landmark weight with greater depth.
Fragile — A slightly slower track confirmed to be about her brother Christopher Ciccone, who passed away from cancer in October 2024. Madonna had already revealed the song’s existence and subject matter in her Jay Shetty podcast appearance months earlier, so this playback marks the first time the track has been heard by journalists — effectively confirming its place on the album. It has an icy production feel with synth strings reminiscent of “Frozen.” O’Brien called it beautiful.
Love Sensation — One of the two tracks previewed at the Club Confessions party at The Abbey in West Hollywood on April 25, where Madonna and Stuart Price debuted it alongside other new material. No further sonic details were shared by O’Brien at this playback.
Good For the Soul — A previously unknown track, revealed for the first time at this playback session. Described as a 4-to-the-floor track with a hint of Detroit techno.
 
Also, she confirmed a MOJO magazine Madonna special coming out at the end of this month and she'll be reviewing the album for the June issue!

yeah I'm expecting spoken word to be used on most tracks but hopefully not in place of sung choruses.
 
Yeah I’m here for vibes. But not an album full of spoken word.

I've always liked Lucy, she's definitely a fan, so it will be a sympathetic review, but she wouldn't lead anyone up the wrong path. She's just not reducing her opinion on the new album to saying the album has no Hung Up to it. Then again, the album being called Confessions II feels far from necessary.
 
What's so funny? "Confessions II" was so obviously going to be COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than Confessions I

Some notes I took during the Q&A - it was hosted by Jodie Harsh.

Stuart said Celebration was the start of CII and they went to the studio after the tour. Madonna enjoyed doing the Celebration tour.

They didn’t go in the studio thinking they were going to do Confessions II, the project evolved into it. It’s documenting where she is at in life and who she is.

Moodboard was revisiting clubs like Twilight, Limelight, Danceteria etc. that Madonna frequented

Recording of the album was very structured. M would come with an A4 notepad with lyrics. Sometimes she would bring the lyrics and Stuart would have some music and they would connect the lyrics with the music.

It was mostly recorded in one location with the same microphone she used for confession 1 Stuart had bought with all of his money28 years ago.

As mentioned elsewhere nothing was recorded remotely. BYL was recorded in NY with Sabrina. There was an immediate physical chemistry between them as they had similar experiences at different times of their lives.

He said the idea of recording BYL came up naturally and they just went "let’s get in the room and see what happens."He also said BYL was F U record and was about having control over your own career. And it was like “you don’t think I am in control of my career? F U! bring your love!”

The album took over a year to complete. Madonna would listen to each song they recorded, start to finish everyday when she was at the gym.

He said it took a while to hear back from Lil Louis to get the sample cleared for IFSF.

There is a lot of spoken word on the album about what the dancefloor means. It’s confessional but also includes songs around loss and related to world events.

He talked about bit about the Abbey show.

He said M’s vocals was the best he heard. I also made a note about the record was Madonna being at the height of her expression and also showing vulnerability.

He referred to the album as a 16 track record and did not mention the 12 track version. He also said is it 16 tracks or is it one long track?

He also mentioned no collaborator was ever the same after working with Madonna (in a positive way)
