I know I keep saying this but I considered Rebel Heart a return to form (somewhat), so I have no reason not to be optimistic about Madame X.

Actually that's not even true - we ALL KNOW she CAN deliver a GREAT album if she wants to. It's just that she seems to have little idea what her strengths are.

Absolutely. The good bits of “Rebel Heart” were just overshadowed by the dross-y bits

It's a lot more laid-back and "mellow" than I thought it would be -- which is a good thing, really. Not really keen on the "Ven Conmigo" chorus but in terms of picking up a certain genre + male collaborator(s) and running with it as a lead single it's doing 5 times the job "4 Minutes" did.

What it has in spades over the recent collaborations (Timberlake, Pharrell, Diplo, etc.) is that he's a (VERY GOOD) feature and adding lots but yet it's still totally HER song.

I'd agree with it being her strongest lead since Hung Up. By a considerable distance.

Agreed. I'd rate it above the corking "4 Minutes" for the reasons I said above: she sounds like guest on her own track on that. NOT here, baby, not HERE.
 
It certainly sounds like a way FORWARD for her.

That said, Janet did it better.

It’s fine though, and doesn’t sound like she’s ripping off a current sound in the way Hard Candy did.
